If you have a KO II you do not need the Medieval. It the same machine only with a different look and other samples.

Medieval has an arpeggiator different efx too

and locked multisample playback support*

I will be a bit pi$$y if TE start introducing a load of different KOIIs with interesting feature tweaks and don’t share them into a common KOII firmware, or at least some sort of configurator so you can custom feature your KOII.

I couldn’t figure out why TE decided to randomly describe the time stretch feature as “Caerbannog” in the manual. Killer rabbit? Holy hand grenade? Nothing seemed to fit…

…Until I got mine, tried it out, and saw the menu for time mode read: “TIM”

slow clap

‘Vox Humana” stop … lol. It’s a very old patch ….

Killer rabbits are taken from Medieval Upside world iconography. Rabbits killing their hunters. There are many explanations for this, from justice to the meek to Christian reformation.

I think TE included it because it is such a big part of Medieval “lore”.

quick thoughts. it’s my first TE device so i’m pretty excited:

  • I love the build quality. the pads are great- like a smoother, more premium version of elektrons mechanical keyboard keys. they can do velocity but its kinda spotty.
  • the buttons feel great, too. small thing but so much gear uses mushy or creaky buttons.
  • not sure i like the pots. think encoders would have been nicer for the UI, since youre hopping around tracks so much.
  • the screen is adorable and fun. its definitely kinda hard to use, specifically bc some icons will glow a bit if a nearby icon is glowing brightly, so youre not always sure what’s happening
  • it’s really fast. theres no latency between any modes or features. the only time it’s slow is when it loads a demo song. and that’s like 1 second.
  • i wish more instruments had built in speakers. it’s so convenient. there’s something about sound coming from the instrument itself that makes it special. obviously tons of older cheesy keyboards from the 80s and 90s had speakers too so its not like this invented that concept
  • kinda sucks that it takes AAA’s, but whatever.
  • most of the medieval samples are actually really good. the percussion is all really versatile, and some of the stringed instruments can make really beautiful and dark music. a lot of the samples will take some work to make sound “not medieval”.

it’s fun. i like it

Use eneloops, so much better than a built in lithium ion pack etc since you never need to worry about battery ageing and deterioration. Also if you’re on a trip and your rechargeables die, get lost, charger breaks, etc, you can just get a pack of batteries at the grocery store.

My first thoughts too!

In case any of you are interested in a comparison, especially focussing on the different FX.
Feel free to correct me if I made any mistakes.

Discovered that the punch FX aren’t just on/off. You can hold the punch FX button (pocus) and get variable amounts of FX based on how hard you press each pad. Pretty sweet. You can also get velocity this way while using the arpeggiator, and all of that can be recorded. This $299 unit can do things my $1899 Analog Rytm cant

woah that is news to me, i gotta turn velocity back on from time to time. just used the arp to make a funky perc groove yesterday, its growing on me, when i thought i didnt care originally. sweet

made this one yesterday, used the arp on some hats and percs to mix it up. sampled synths off the op-1f so its hardly medieval. im sure theres some stock percs in there somewhere. ran it through the sp404 for extra sauce

pretty much all of the 70 percussion samples are great and usable for some really heavy music:

Sounds like early Orbital, and that’s a good thing.
