Teenage Engineering Sampler 'Medieval'

Well “whatever” the reason for releasing this “dumb” idea of a product, TE will not have me as a customer of this product.

I just don’t see the point of buying a Sample Pack with a couple new effects for $300.

at least it is the same price as classic edition, not like the sp404 stones throw

Honestly since it’s Lego based, just sell faceplates then.

Limited run units and faceplates.

Collect ‘em all

The Stones Throw units eventually dropped in price at Guitar Center and were priced to move at the same price as the Roland versions.

But if you had neither of them, now you have a choice!

Are the KO-133 no longer available?

I am definitely not the Target Market. I know that.

I guess this unit isn’t different than their PO line. They are also theme based devices…so there’s that aspect to consider with the marketing of this device.

Could well be. But it is also true that most companies release updates, and we people have no real insight into the technology or business trade-offs - so we judge by comparison in this age and time, and try to figure out what is possible and reasonable to expect for the price/size/etc. I find for example no excuse for the Seqtrak’s cheap plastic buttons. And their implementation of a screen-less device is so much worse than the OP-Z, in my opinion. So it can be an egotistic ‘want’, but also an ‘informed’ want as a customer. Standards change and boundaries are pushed. Is it possible to have 3000 factory sounds on something the size of the MC-101? Yes. Avoiding excruciating menu diving? Not so much in the case of Roland, apparently. Then along comes Elektron with much more fluent p-locks… No one is expecting an automatically unfolding full size keyboard from under the OP-1. Just what they see elsewhere, I think. Bear in mind I am holding a super-computer in my hand right now :slightly_smiling_face:

I just think TE could do so much more, really, and it is a pity, since they really have a talent for innovative gear. But it’s just my view. For better or worse, they clearly pay no attention, so it’s no big deal either way. Just opinions of people.

The way I see it … If you like it, buy it. If you don’t, don’t.

Consumers need to be aware of marketing hype though. TE is good at this. Do your research and don’t go by Youtuber hype (which TE is very good at).

Assume what you see is what you get.

I think this is great. £299 is at the lower end in this game, so nothing wrong with creating fucked up, fun themed gear that inspires and doesn’t take itself to seriously. It’s no different to Monopoly Game of Thrones edition, and there’s hours of fun to be had. The industry clearly has a market for this sort of approach and I’m all for it. Imagine what Dead Can Dance or Ancient Methods would do with this hahah

This thing is no different than what they have done with the Pocket Operator line. Each one is unique and has a distinct style. The difference here I think is that this costs more. Not sure why so many people are up in arms about it.

Are there that many people up in arms about it?

Can someone do a Medieval Digitakt II so I stop being tempted by this thing?

I can’t think of anything better to do on a Sunday night than watch House of the Dragon have a vessel of red wine, some sweaty cheese and then get stuck into this thing. :grinning:

probably just people posting their disinterest, i just dont go in threads of gear i dont care about so its a bit alien to me

Does the dotted image under the keys button mean Arp?

The only reason the 1320 irritates me is that I’m impatiently awaiting a synthesis-based EP. I don’t truly dislike the Medieval; it’s just a scapegoat for my insatiable expectations.

Fair.

“Disinterest” is defo a more appropriate take than “up in armours.”

Haha I understand that. I hope they have a synthesis EP in the works. A tonic or arcade would be great. I think both would play well with the display. It would be amazing if they used that extra processor on the EP-133 to have the tonic available by changing a group to that type and then all of the pads would be a sound.

That made me laugh hard, it difficult to not see the gag there, I mean they couldn’t have given akai any harder of a dig in the ribs…
