Hehe well not the only option. Basically any looper would do the trick but that makes it less of a super small live setup which is my idea with this thing😊
I find it interesting that over the last week or so discussion was positive and focused on the product and use of the product by real users but once the holiday break was over the forum and social media messaging is back to being negative. Definitely a coincidence and not indicative of anything.
Why do you assume that people who criticize are not real users?
There is a user thread, I understand, to ask questions and talk about the device. But I understand also that in this thread, you can always respectfully criticize the device. Let’s not forget that there are many people who are in doubt about whether to spend 2300 euros and I understand that looking at the positive points and also the most critical ones… can help them.
Comment made by a real user, In this link, you have the proof:
Just perform a smooth fade-out then queue the next project.
What’s interesting is the lack of perspective of longevity consideration. GAS is the first step to buyers remorse.
Would assume the people running into upper limits, pattern max, variations on xy don’t use trig conditions on the elektron gear either. There really isn’t much of a paradigm shift or learning curve for that matter between step components and trig conditions.
I’m fairly certain this device has a permanent home here, can’t speak for anyone else. There will likely be significant updates but it’s very versatile, fast, fun, performative, sonically pleasing, and punches hard as it is at launch.
One fun thing I discovered today that creates things I’d never come up with manually is setting the punch-in FX track to just the drum track(s), activating an arp on random, and then playing/recording the punch-in FX with the arp creating wild variation, rolls, syncopation, spread FX, etc. It’s unique in a way that the Octatrack scenes are while being musical and generative and recordable, not just arbitrary locks for performance crossfades.
But to each his own.
Some might find these cheesy, but I unintentionally stumbled upon using brain unintentionally last month…
Brain Drum Kit Pattern Flip
Brain Drum Kit Track Flip
Brain Drum Break Pattern Flip
Brain Melodic Chop Flip
Hope something here is interesting for folks out there!
Fabe is my fave producer on this thing
What do people think the resale value of the OPXY will be on Reverb? Will it be a hard sell due to concerns?
I’d be surprised if the new price stays this high for more than 6 months …
Im waiting for that inevitability.
I really don’t understand people not thinking 9 patterns is enough. I’m having a hard time using 4 patterns per track for a song. 64 steps stretched to the max gives a lot of programmability, and then you can sequence the aux tracks. I have 4 songs that are mostly done and each are 3-5 minutes long. Most are using 2-3 patterns per track.
You can reach the 9 pattern limit pretty quickly if you want to do long sets or if you if you are making more complex styles of music like breakcore that require lots of frequent changes that frankly the step components and punch in fx don’t cover all of my bases. I need more granular control. I’m probably just gonna return it and go back to the computer and wait for the Tonverk
its already down to £1810 at juno in the UK (if you ask them for a discount)
Im planning on buying one in easter. By that time i hope the price will be under £1800 and another 3 rounds of firmwares be released.
Why not set each pattern to 64 bars and record long er break patterns.9x64bars should be plenty.
Also I don’t think xy is designed for full live sets with just one project
That’s great to hear. I’m still on the fence about this one until it’s had a few updates, but I have faith since the TX6, ko2 and op1f received some shockingly useful additions too.
The only thing missing from the entire suite is a reliable multi-track out of any kind. Maybe I’ll have to rent it for a weekend to play with the Brain. I know there’s Ableton plugins etc, but being one of those people who hates creating with a mouse it’s still promising.
On the opz you could chain/cue projects seamlessly. It’s a big let down you can’t do this on the opxy.
It’s early days though. I expect them to add everything from the opz once they get the basics fixed.
