I haven’t updated to the latest OS yet. I’m just going to wait to update because it seems the update might have created more bugs. My experience has been smooth so far, but I haven’t pushed it to do much beside sketch out tracks.
Thanks for the correction, but I usually do it on the table
Same feeling here. The thing is TE kinda sucks at updating their gear.
I got the KO II and waited for updates until I sold it.
So, based on your TE (this question is for everyone) experience do you think that TE is not going to solve the bugs on the XY? Honestly, I’m afraid on this.
I’m not concerned about updates. The OP-XY is the new flagship and I don’t think they’ve even begun to push the dual processors they’ve implemented as far as they can. They need to move on from the limited OP-1 Field hardware and paradigm.
They’ll be many updates for us to enjoy and I have a feeling some of them will really surprise us. The obvious bugs will be fixed, but new features and sound engines will most likely be implemented too.
KO2 was fairly complete - not much in the way of bugs anyhow
Bit mean to suggest TE are rubbish at updates - OP-1 literally got hundreds
OP-XY is pretty much sold out in the UK atm…I fully expect more updates when when the next batch start dropping
OP-1 field had frequent updates for over 2 years with new features and bug fixes. Why wouldn’t OP-XY be treated the same. Go check for yourself: downloads OP–1 field to have an idea what to expect for OP-XY.
I wish I would have waited, it seemed more stable for me before.
Can’t you just revert it somehow?
I mean, I have to disagree, even in the short time working with the XY it definitely felt like they were pushing if not maxing out the capabilities with its existing features.
Running the sequencer and scanning for samples would crash the device, it frequently felt like it was operating at the edge.
To me it makes sense that it’s pretty maxed out already because I can’t imagine what else they would add feature wise that would push it further? It’s running 8 engines, modulators and like 4-5 effects at any given time, I (personally) think it’s close to the redline
I think the issues are due to bugs and it seems like they’re more prevalent after the latest update. I imagine more FX, synth engines, and features after bugs are addressed.
TE can be excruciatingly slow with software updates, but it seems like they released 1.0.13 and the Field Kit update fairly quickly. I emailed support regarding a software issue this week, and not only did they respond the same day, but they also asked me to test it out and get back to them. I was shocked.
Every issue and sentiment felt here should be sent to support@te. If we’re loud enough, they might listen.
Well, when they launched the OP-1 it was pretty much the only thing they needed to update- now there is an entire field series and many more products…stands to reason the products will get less attention unless they have scaled up their development teams in line with the number of products.
Neither OP-Z or KO II got threshold recording although promised (along others).
I had issue with OP1f reflashing itself upon restart. It took them a while and 2 or 3 updates to make it stick.
PS: My frustration is because I love their devices and all, but I find it unbearable sometimes. I don’t wanna return my OP-XY (although I think today was the last day), but I don’t wanna end-up with it selling for 2/3 * price. I really love this device and it has everything I wanted from the others, except bugs
So I got a little demonstration of the XY by @Python today and am really impressed. I would suggest people who don‘t have one to look at what it can do instead of what it can’t do (compared to an Elektron). Without hands on experience, I had a strong impression that it streamlines things we like about the Elektron workflow, which means you don’t get options as deep as on the Elektrons. But by doing that, it’s able to giving you a lot more that I wish Elektron would take a deep look at and find a way to replicate that.
You can easily setup really complex performance scenes and arrangement views that enable you to do so much with just one screen and a few button presses. For example. And by giving you a dedicated trig view for so many different aspects of the sequencer plus useful info on the screen, it seems so much more inviting to do crazy stuff than on Elektrons, where all of the different options for plocks, motion recording etc. have to fit into a single sequencer grid mode view. Plus you can record so much performance stuff into the sequencer, mute/unmute it etc.
I still don’t want to buy one though because this seems to be a machine that should be your one and only workstation/sequencer. I can see learning how all of its features interlock and being in heaven. But I think it’s best if you re program your brain to how it’s doing things and get lost in it. Not ready to do that yet, but I can totally see myself selling most stuff and focusing on this one, if for example I don’t have the space for a table with different gear anymore.
I just made a video that shows how I get my OP-XY stems over to a daw and finishing a song:
Hope you like it
what would be a good external fx pedal for the op-xy’s aux audio signal? maybe something like the source audio collider? dual reverb/delay…
any thought or ideas?
Well, what kind of effect are you missing on the XY / would like to have a dedicated pedal for? From what I can tell, the reverb on it is excellent, I‘m sure the delay is as well. These kinds of questions often sound a bit like buying something for the sake of buying something to me, no offense.
looking into proper pingpong delays… or shimmery verbs…
yeah gas is lurking around everywhere
Zoia
At least that’s what I’ll be using with it once I got the XY.
