Teenage Engineering OP-XY

It takes every sample rate I throw at it on 16bit. Not sure about various bit depths though. You are still able to use aif if that’s what you prefer.

Actually, I think this is a clever idea.
@MichaalHell would you mind creating a “OP-XY operators” thread dedicated to the use of the device?

Or a dedicated TE whiners thread like the Behringer one.

Does it multisample onto the keys?

This thread would be for the whiners. The new one would be OP-XY Users thread which will help focus on helpful information from people actually using it or interested in buying it. Someone will make it. Not me, but someone

I’m curious, are the punch in FX dynamically routed or is the chain fixed? Thanks!

Why do you need to deem it a “whiners thread”?

Shouldn’t something this expensive be able to produce good, non sampled sounds, when it has a synth engine?

Actually I’d welcome that, and I would only visit that negative thread - I want to understand all the potential limitations. One thread for (baseless?) enthusiasts and one for (baseless?) detractors. I am tired of people offended by everything and anything, much less about a commercial product. Jesus.

I don’t think it’s about being offended. I don’t own an Op-XY but I’m interested in one. I’m aware of the price and what it can and can’t do. I’m interested in hearing from users’ experience and how they are using it.

I dont own a deck saver, so I can’t 100% confirm. But the encoder placement look identical, so it should work

Yeah that sounds good! Maybe also add OP-Z users as well since the workflow is very similar

The multisampler engine that’s shown last here is incredible. This is going to be so much fun to create patches and play around with. I ordered an OP-XY, but I also hope that this will make it to the OP-1f. 24 samples stretched across the keyboard however one deems appropriate for the current sound. Either span the entire range with some pitch artifacts or make two octaves as realistic as possible. Or keyboard splitting to have multiple patches in one slot.

It is kind of a bummer that there’s no video synthesis on this one. Seems like they took out the light show stuff as well. If we’re gonna be honest very few people probably used any of that stuff. At least for the video stuff would have been cool if they iterated on it and made it more accessible. Seems like there could be more of a market for that but what’s in hardware so far is either very programmer-y and not accessible for 99% of musicians (Eyesy, OP-Z) or extremely expensive and niche (modular stuff like LZX).

But again, also a super low priority for the vast majority of people buying this thing.

It’s kinda funny because so many people request to open the firmware for third party sound engines. And the one aspect where that was done already on the op-z barely got any content created for it. I know it’s apples and oranges because one is audio and one is video and people who bought the op-z are mainly interested in audio, but still.

Yes, it should fit them all AFAIK.

Can you post a demo of this feature being used to make good music?

What kind of music do you like?

No, because I just saw the feature shown literally a few minutes ago in the latter half of the sample demo posted above. The op-xy was announced only a few days ago, have some patience, it’s not even shipping from all shops yet.
But if you have only a bit of musical imagination, you might be able to realize how nice such a multisample engine on such a portable device can be.

Edit: That means you can literally sample any other synth or real instrument in here and play it back polyphonically without (or with minimal) loss of quality due to pitching the sample up and down.

Have you tried not buying one? I’m guessing you have so why wouldn’t you go talk about stuff you have more than zero interest in owning? Wasting your one precious life, unless you’re a paid detractor or someone who gets joy from negativity.

Desert tech, soul, drive techno, 160 … mc101 covers these bases harder than what I’ve heard from the xy.

I want to buy it, but from what I’ve heard sonically, it sounds like basic thinny sounds.
