Op-1 field desk saver compatible with the op-xy?
Wonder if loopop got one and still polishing his video
You know, I have to agree with you here. It reminds me of the knock off versions of athletic shoes my poor parents used to buy me as a kid… It has as all the details of the fancy athletic shoe (the OP-1 field in this case) but somehow manages to look clunky and unstylish.
I mean could be that they’re going for 40% profit margins just to keep their company very healthy?
It’s not like they’re spending shitloads on marketing, the buzz does create itself with these prices… lol.
I was already contemplating what to sell and how long to save to get it yesterday, the GAS was very bad, as I like this device very much. I slept over it and it cleared my head a bit. I have extensive experience with TE gear over the years, and like some here mention it is not 100% solid QC, especially with the OP-Z. Contrary to some, I did have very good experience with their support every time. I have the field and it remains one of my top 3 favourite devices ever made, specifically because of the tape workflow and what it can do in combination with my other gear. It makes me get away from the computer while I’m still able to record and manipulate that audio in a tactile way. This brings me more joy than using a computer. I make music for myself only, and am more interested in the process then about producing anything of value for someone else. It’s one of the rare things that make truly disconnect, feel excitement and relaxation. The price of 2k is still insane but I caved back then, and I’m not sorry. I probably wouldn’t do it today.
2300 EUR for XY is a lot… too much IMO, even for something I know I would totally enjoy. For some people it’s a no brainer, but I would never buy a 1000<dedicated synth. This I would… for up to 1500… maybe. Also, while the XY does tick many, many boxes for me, if I include all my experience with TE products, I would not trust it to provide me with 0 frustration considering the asking price.
While I fully understand anyone looking into this, I would give you the advice to wait for longer term experiences, and to rather buy a discounted used version which was confirmed to be without faults.
So all the pre hype images/ icons leading up to this product are actually not in the OP-XY?
Didnt we have things like vinyl speed time icons and tons of other such stuff
Where are all the videos going deep on it? Is it me or with the KO II there were far more videos available at launch?
Damn, the cheapest here are 370€ with a 50% rish of double trigger buttons or that it’s bend.
For 250$ in good condition I would suggest everyone to get an op-z as an utility module.
Half joking. Yeah, if one gets one for cheap then it’s fine. The problem is the Build quality, it just seems as if it’s not an if question but a when, similar to Nintendo’s joy con problem.
op1f related
it may be still the goat if they release the 2.0 update which utilizes the CPU advantage over the OG, raising its price to 2499,- and happiness is back
For me it’s simply the thing, that for a studio@home device the portability is not much of a benefit, but for a “pos it in the bag” device it’s to much.
There will be people where it’s fine cause they have to much disposable income, are earning from their music and what not, but for hobbyist musicians it’s just to high in price for a portable device.
Then again people buy 10-1500$ phones so what do I know (350€ the most expensive and a 10€/month plan)
Yeah, feels like this was more kept to the chest. Then again, with ko2 it was easiert to show everything in one run of 15 minutes, this is probably way more complicated to get in that timeframe.
I guess it was just pure silliness!
If you have the money and you like it or it’s your hobby, buy it. It’s a expensive product, yes. But it’s a cool piece of gear that can make cool music depending on the type of hands.
TE are just fucking trolling us now.
Thats what people say since the op was gone and back again with a higher price.
It’s interesting to see how many people like the OP-Z here. I got one when it came out and back then it seemed like not that many were convinced by it.
Then don’t buy and move to another manufacturer.
It was 600$ in 2018 money and the sounds are simply not that great.
For 3-400$ in 2025 money it’s a really capable pocketable sequencer that can control a lot of gear.
Different value proposition. 600 in today’s money would be 750$, so you can get it for half it’s initial price, that helps comb over the shortcomings of bring your own screen and meh sounds.
On the other hand, it also cooled down simply sauce it build quality is…questionable.
Im with you here. The workflow of the OP-1 frustrated me a LOT.
I had a real love/hate relationship with it yet it is a piece of gear I have regretted selling ever since I sold it.
The OP-1 is like no other device I’ve owned. I’d find myself picking it up all the time and having a great time jamming on it, even just whilst waiting for my wife to get ready before heading out. It’s THAT easy and quick to get into something. The fact its very portable and the battery will last days are huge plus points.
What I didn’t like was the connectibility, having to ‘commit’ to tape, to play ‘live’ with it is to just playback a tape turning on/off 4 channels and having a few punch-in effects.
I’ve thought about getting a Field but a lot of the ‘restrictions’ for me remain.
The OP-XY on the other hand has lots of FX, sequencers etc and seems like it is made for live performance/playback. If it wasn’t quite so expensive I’d have hit the Buy Now button already as an impulse buy.
Would be VERY interested to see someone using this as a machine for sample based beats like triphop, lofi hiphop. The sequencing/randomness/p-locks/fx would be great for flipping samples.
Yeah. So happy to have gotten an OG, I love all the changes of the field… But for that price it stil kept exactly those restrictions.
Op-1 is a great pick up and noodle around toy. But it’s hard to do something with those ideas, since I can’t jet set them in context, but have to commit. It feels like it expects me to already have a plan when trying stuff out. That’s a me skill, I know. But if the sequencers at least could hold more patterns, so that I can try more around with them…
