Teenage Engineering EP-Series [ The User Thread ]

Hi guys, not sure if anyone ran into this but when trying to update the Ting it keeps telling me that there isn’t enough space on the Tingdisk when I drag the file. I deleted all files on ting and drive says 1MB space total while the firmware says 1.5MB - def not enough space.

Otherwise how can I log in a ticket? Not clear from TE menu…

Thanks for your help

There are two different disks on the Ting. You are trying to put the firmware on the disk that holds samples.

Here is a Reddit post that explains how to do it correctly: https://www.reddit.com/r/teenageengineering/comments/1ox3hil/comment/noujfdx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Thank you so much! I’ll give it a go :pray::pray:

Sounds like you have the right answer to solve this, however in case that isn’t the problem - if you’re on Mac make sure to empty the recycle bin (whilst the drive is mounted) as the files will only have been soft-deleted until then.

Thanks, I did empty the bin, no dice :frowning: I’ll try the method explained above.

I can’t recall exactly how to do it, but there are instructions in the read file with the firmware for how to get the other one to mount. You have to hold a button.

upgrading the firmware

  1. remove the lower lid.
  2. attach a usb-c cable from the device to your computer.
  3. press and hold the handle during the entire upgrade process.
  4. while still holding the handle, double-click the small button located above the usb port.
  5. a drive named “TING BOOT” will appear on your computer. this drive will contain the files INDEX.HTM and INFO_UF2.TXT.
  6. drag and drop the firmware file onto this drive.
  7. wait for the file to finish transferring.
  8. once transferred, the unit will automatically restart (the white led will turn on).

At Thomann, I can see the Ting listed as a separate item:

It’s marked as available in a few weeks.

"effects
as mentioned above, ting can read instructions from a json file. this file does much more than just tell ting which samples to play. it defines an entire fx chain, a sequence of individual effects, whose combined result becomes one of ting’s four effects. within that chain, you can reorder, swap, or redesign effects, change how you interact with them, and adjust the parameters for every effect in the chain. you can also choose whether samples should be “colored” by routing them through specific parts of the chain.

if you feel like diving into building your own fx chains, it’s worth starting from the examples below and tweaking a few parameters to see how ting behave.

this stuff can get pretty complicated, so if you want to go further and build your own effects, the online guide is a good place to start.

if you happen to break the json code for some reason and the device freezes, don’t panic. simply connect to computer and hold green + white buttons during startup to access and fix the file."

After a few tests this is working well as visual alternative to typing. Ting is an AAA power house, just needs a line tINg.

Im interested in testing. Also, there is a guy I found on youtube a while back that is also working on a program, and has it working already but has not released it yet.

Sure, no worries. I’ll ensure to ping you when ready for testing.

I’ve been following his videos too and his tool looks good. I’m not just making a multisample creator, but a tool that will allow users to create loops with the BPM, kits, etc. as well as managing the samples on the device too, taking backups, etc. all offline.

Anyone having luck with the Ting and 404MK2?

I’m hoping on using it to record guitar for quick ideas and what not. Toss a rubber band around the trigger and good to go! I love simple! The few test I’ve tried was all over the place volume wise though.

I’ve plugged it into the MKII and it works fine. I haven’t recorded any guitar or anything yet with it. Good idea about the rubber band, I hadn’t considered that.

It’s not great, recording an acoustic guitar a foot away it fades in and out. Like a Bluetooth speaker does with inactivity. That said, same gain and setup, tapping directly on the mic or speaking closely works no problem. No clue! I’m clearly doing something wrong!

Edit: swapped out batteries, still no go!
