Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

What if they did a variety of reskins? That could be fun!

I’m already skeptical that the 1320 is just a reskin, because it seems like a weird thing to keep secret and secretly ship them to stores all around the world, just to be able to announce ā€œBAM! Medievaled! In stores near you today!ā€ That behavior makes more sense for a completely new release.

I’m wondering how this new device might link with the EP133 beyond sync  Could be a neat solution to adding extra features without changing the workflow of the KO2.

I really really really want a bigger Tonic drum machine.

it totally makes sense for a reskin more than a new product to be honest, new stuff is prone to problems and a ā€œcontrolledā€ release might help smooth them out.
Imagine shipping to stores worldwide a broken fader…
With a reskin the hardware hiccups are mostly sorted out and it’s a safer release. Just my 2 cents

And if the new product uses the exact same hardware as the previous model and just runs different software? That’s basically what TE did with the small pocket operators. I guess it would make sense for the new EP series as well.

announcement today at 18:00 swedish time… which is weird, usually releases are announced a couple of hours earlier in the day here…

Where did you see this?

I heard that it’s got a Hurdy-Gurdy mode.

…i don’t see any point in any sort of reskin/mk2/call it what not else aproach for a little genious but obviously low price gadget in all this realm of te’s thinking exclusively underneath the radar out loud design world…

for sure, at some point in the nearer future, there will be a new device in same formfactor that’s doing something else…it IS their next level pocket operator project and that’s how they will handle it…

and i’d also say, there’s a good chance, it will be some sort of toniq meets bass synth device, since that’s the kind of thing that would compliment that first sample based device the most…

both together would make a great op 1 substitute for cheap…
and THAT’s what u can call a solid and most logical next level business plan…

spoke in person to someone at a store

Musictech gives some blurb there -

IDK…

The last FW update feels medieval

Been digging around some more, now I’m back to thinking it’s just a new color ep-133 with new factory sounds and an improved hardware fader…

its so silly to me that new factory sounds are a selling point for a special edition, are people really that starved for samples

I assume the unique look is supposed to be the main selling point? I’m a fan of cosmetic variations for gear, I think this is weird and cool

i only mention that because of people on reddit who have been saying ā€œooo i hope it has new stock samplesā€ or ā€œus ep-133 users better get access to those stock samples!ā€

still hoping this is a whole new EP but im not holding my breath

I think a lot of people like stock samples! They can really define the sound of an instrument. But yeah I’m with you…

Especially since the KOII stock samples are top notch. But seriously, who would really need medieval themed samples? It might be a fun challenge to incorporate lute and hurdy gurdy sounds in a song (shoutout to geologist from animal collective), but that can’t be the selling point.
The ideal scenario for me would be a new machine based on the po-35 (live vocoder) and po-32, first released in this special edition, later in a regular design without that horrible font. But I’m not in the market for any new gear, just very curious how this develops as it’s so absurd, even for TE.

maybe this is how they are launching the much requested resampling update
