Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

I wish there was a way to get back to the beginning or to start recording from the beginning without using shift. The current methods are:

  1. Pressing shift & minus a bunch of times.
  2. Shift and play starts playback from the beginning.
  3. Arm record then pressing shift and play starts recording from the beginning with count in.

When it’s used in combination with a MIDI keyboard it becomes pretty tedious having to reach over to use two hands, or to awkwardly stretch out with one to reach shift.

I can’t really think of a solution without there being a dedicated button, such as the MPC’s “play” and “play start” buttons, but perhaps there’s a way.

Hi guys, can you help me? I really like KO2

But after I updated the 1.1.1OS system firmware,

It ended up freezing and I felt like there was no response for about 10 minutes.

So I decided to shut it down and restart it, and the result was great, it wouldn’t start. The update page on the official website also cannot recognize the device, and KO2 has a black screen.

Tried some methods, but still doesn’t work. The computer and data cable were replaced for testing. Batteries and cables were also used for testing and all results were the same

During testing I accidentally discovered that by holding down the [ record ] + power buttons, I could access the interface displayed on the web page.

But after clicking [Restart] and restarting, there is still no response.

I’m wondering, is it because of a previous update that caused KO2 to crash into [recovery mode] or something like that? ? ?

Does KO2 require a system file or other startup file to reboot and enter normal mode? Or is there any hidden shortcut key to get him into normal mode?

Every time I power on the KO2 like this, the computer makes a [beep] sound. I can see both drivers for EP133 in device manager. Does this prove that there is no problem with its hardware?

I’m just guessing, but I’m not sure. I have uploaded a video to the attachment.

The official hasn’t replied to my email yet, so I’d like to ask everyone about this question.

Have any friends encountered the same problem? I don’t know how to fix it. If not, I’m really unlucky. Thank you in advance for helping me despite your busy schedule :disappointed_relieved:

Damn that sucks. Have you tried starting it in Lock Mode?

From the manual: to prevent any changes to projects, patterns, scenes, pads and settings you can use lock mode. hold (main) on start up to lock the device.

Thanks Reply , I tried it, but the screen didn’t display and there was no response.
So is this some kind of metaphysics? Hahaha :joy:

probably gonna have to wipe it. this will remove all the stock sounds, people have uploaded them here and on reddit if you want them back after you format.

Just wanted to report that my unit is running well, and that i picked up a second one as a Christmas present for my son…and well…unit it working fine.

He loves it*

Thanks for making music fun for the novice @te-david The KO2 did it right. He spent 2 hours on it last night making beats and has zero background with groove boxes.

*we’re traveling for Christmas and wanted him to have it before we headed out of town.

He’s hooked.

Crazy isn’t it? I thought “I’ll just have a quick play with it” before heading to bed, at 11pm last night and then stopped myself playing with it at 01:20. Really happy that i’d already finished work for Christmas or that wouldn’t have been good at my age with my 05:50 work alarm.

Yes, many of us have lots of gear that can do more, but the thing starts up in about a second and is about the size of a mid sized book so it’s probably going to be within grabbing distance and is very addictive.

Tbh this (having to re-set non-4/4 time signature after every commit) is so irritating though … @te-david, do you guys have this on your radar? Thank you

1000% agree.

I have other boxes that literally do everything the KO does but better. Yet, the KO is light years ahead of those other boxes in terms of accessibility, immediacy, and playability.

And it’s super fun and sounds absolutely amazing

Edit: If and when the day comes they add resampling, I’d straight up sell some of those other boxes

The quality issues are a huge bummer. Aside from this, it truly is fun and easy and powerful. Sounds amazing too.

I also found that it forces you to keep it simple. If I try too hard for timing to be too perfect or go too much into details on that specific chop, the whole beat progressively loses its sparkle.

Amazing and happy for you both!

I can see that the cheat-sheet is different from mine and I know that somewhere in this thread both versions was posted side by side. But does anyone know which one is the most recent one and best suited to get going?

Thanks for the reply. I’ve tried all the instructions in the manual, but it still doesn’t respond. :sob:

@te-david Master, can you help me? i want to restore it

woof that is no good, im sorry to hear that

Same can be said of the OG KO!

Glad to hear that charm made its way over!!

Factory reset my K.O. || and can’t seem to re-upload all of the original samples back to it because they don’t all fit for some reason lol :man_shrugging:

the one with more details is the newer ver.
the old one has a lot shorter list of shortcuts. its missing a lot. its the one i have.

Lol, I thought you said “goodwill” and thought that’d be a record for the quickest demise of a product ever.
