Teenage Engineering EP-133 K.O. II

Well, his username is “everbong” and certain substances have been known to induce a degree of paranoia…

Yes, I have a KO II. Yes, I had to sand down a few keys that were catching on the frame. Yes, I’ve lost a project already from some weird mute bug. It’s still my favourite hardware at any price and can’t wait to see what else they release in the EP line up.

!

I have hardware samplers from Akai, Roland, and Elektron for reference.

I used two coats ceramic spray designed for auto on my KO II screen. Seems like an easy part to replace as well.

So you’ve had some QC issues yourself then. I think it’s great that you won’t let that deter you from enjoying and even loving the product, I totally understand though if for some these issues are such downers that they feel low about the product.

My device had no issues at all so far, apart from the shitty packaging which didn’t affect the fader or speaker though. To me the thing is cool, it’s priced just about right, the design is lovely, I think it’s a neat and fun little thing but I’d never consider it a replacement (or superior) to most of my other samplers (of which I have more than is probably reasonable).

On a different note, I dig that Integra-7 and the little floor buddha on your photos.

I never knew that just by purchasing some Elektron gear and finding Elektronauts that I would end up coming to this group first every time new gear is released.

TE release…. Check here first

Roland… check here first

Any release… check here first

It’s a good community with good moderation. I appreciate that Elektron allows off-topic conversation. It’s a small win in a world full of division.

Elektron… a good litmus test for good people… not 100% but pretty close

Quick question - According to the manual i should be able to midi sync with Ableton using UsbC,
So far im having no luck. I can see the KO2 in Abletons midi prefs but its not working for some reason.
Has anybody had luck with midi over UsbC with the Ko2 and Ableton?

As soon as you connect the KO II to the computer via USB C and open ableton you will see it listed on the midi devices on preferences > midi, turn on clock send. on out from > that sends clock from ableton to KO II

on KO II go to shift > system and find the clock setting modify it from internal to midi (not. sure if that’s the correct name) and you will have the KO II receiving clock from Ableton.

Good sir, are you going to address the issue of devices wiping themselves seemingly randomly at all? Are you aware of the issue? Any idea what it could be? Any advice to current users?

I think we’ve tagged you 500 times or so in regard to this issue :joy:

He did already. They have not been able to recreate the issue. He offered to send a beta firmware to a users here that had that issue.

good point! we could add a system setting for it later. we even discussed having a PIN code at some point, he he. but happy we didn’t as there wouldn’t be a way to recover if you forget your pin

I can certainly appreciate wanting to be somewhat tight lipped about it until you understand what the issues are, while preparing for transparency. Having a new assembly and crew must have had it’s own challenges and possible variables… I’ve worked as an assembler, micro solderer etc when I was young and when I think of all the issues that could come up that could just be a simple mistake assembly wise. It’s easy for a new assembly crew to make mistakes. Easy for new QC teams to have errors that would most likely never happen again.

Then the slider issue which I’ve heard was just due to the shipping weight and only was problematic for the bottom layer or two. That seems like the pain… having to redesign shipping without it affecting cost.

BTW- mine works great, fader works great…love it, just waiting to see what the cause was for the fader issue, looking forward to the future firmware updates

I contacted your support team and asked how to get an exchange unit if that’s not possible, how to get a return label. They sent me a link to form I had to fill out in order to get a return label. so I guessed that exchange units. I would’ve loved to get a new one.

Thanks for the reply. I’ll re check my settings but im pretty sure thats how i have it setup… It’s just that nothing happens. It doesn’t say EXT on the KO2 like how it does when I use DIN and it doesnt seem to register midi from the pads either. I hoping it’s just user error.

i have no issues with mine (besides one sample i can‘t delete) but just want to thank your for showing up here and contribute to this thread in an open manner.

I‘m also pleased that no one throws stones at you because they have a faulty unit and the frustration is (understandable) big.

One tip for you: don‘t show up on gearspace  it‘s (generally) much more toxic than here.

I love this little box :+1:
