Talk me out of the Digitone Keys!

…right there, in it’s preset banks…

and just for clarification…electronic music was my first teenage love back then…and it’s only dx7’s fault and it’s plastic uber alles bell vibes that conquered the whole music charts in the second half of the 80ies made me hate electronic music for a little while…

and even if u could name one truly great sound from the dx days, u could never wrap ur head around how to recreate it or even slightly add any changes to it…pomise.

that’s the whole culprit breaker that ess was able to bring to the fm table with dt’s totally new and userfriendly edit access options to overall fm sounddesign…

I’ve gone through the sound packs with the tag ‘Digitone Keys’ and I don’t think there’s one that actually used the DNK for it or am I mistaken? It seems they’re all sequenced and not played on the DNK and just recorded.

Perhaps? The Keys was released with a sound pack which was unique from the ones that came stock on the DN. It utilized the modwheel, aftertouch aspects quite a bit more than the stock sounds.

don’t buy something that you will never use

I’ve decided I’m getting one. The seller is gonna call me back in an hour or so.
What would be the current value of the TNK? (It’s in mint condition and i’m getting some warranty as well)

Check this out, some great DX7 style patches. Not sure if they are optimised for the DNK though, but the author studied the original patches and captured the spirit nicely.

As for the value, hard to say. Where I am located they are usually pretty rare. Lately there’s been an abundance of them, pushing them down to around €600-700. I don’t think that’s normal worldwide though.

I’ve been on and off getting one myself. I really love the form factor, it reminds me of the good old SFX-6 which I loved. But I do love the portability of the desktop unit too, and have convinced myself I can achieve what I want with an external keyboard. The Digitone is like two synths in one to me; one is an almost perfect and creative little groovebox with a world of sounds. Connect an external keyboard and it takes on a completely different life as a playable keyboard synth. I think you’ll love the DNK.

As for the DX7, I found it quite easy to get the hang of the interface. It’s tedious with a lot of button presses and jumping between menus, but fairly logical still.

I’ve payed €850,-. The store told me it’s from a client that bought a lot of gear all at once and returned the DNK because it wasn’t working with his setup. So basically it’s a B-Stock.
Comes with a decksaver plus full warranty.

And yes that DN video is one of my favorites.

I do hope it’s not abandoned by Elektron yet. It’s still on their website (just sold out) so I would think there’s a chance at least one update is in the making. It could use some extra love. :crossed_fingers:

Updates are shared with the classic DN so I wouldn’t worry too much. Plus, the DN key is already a great instrument. You will have a lot of fun!

Also love the fact it has its own outputs for each track as well.

Digitone II confirmed but will there be a DNK II?

Forget DNII and DNKII. What we should really want/need/deserve/desire/lust for right now is a DT II keys with individual stereo outputs and polyphony per track!

With a deck saver and full warranty? That’s a killer price. Congratulations!

Yeah, you got an excellent deal. Some people are allergic to the design but that’s on them! I love the playability of mine.

When was digitone 2 confirmed? Did I miss something? Isn’t it all just speculation??
Isn’t the guy that coded the digitone gone now too? I seriously doubt a digitone 2.

Speculation. I only tried to talked them out of buying a DNK.

Do it if you planned to not fully use its midi features, cause it got plenty but it’s not able to handle more than a few of them at once.

Oh… well you don’t need a 2 for that… trust in that whatever they are working on will be cooler and more desirable… especially if they ever do a keyboard again… dtk will always be a cool quirky thing though…
If you really want to be talked or if it go play a original dx7 and hear the difference…lol…

love my dtk btw…

It’s also an inside from the Elektron Speculation thread.
