He left after a long illness, aggravated in the last hours, Fra 909 . Francesco Porfiri was a very important person in the diffusion of the international club culture . Among the pioneers of videomaking in the context of festivals and clubs, Fra had managed to build an unprecedented profession, then becoming the model, example and reference for all those who have chosen this path . And he did it well before the explosion of social media, the habit of DJs and their teams to bring directors and photographers in tow.
Between 909 he was in fact the inventor of what we now call aftermovie : his passion for techno and the world of club music led him, as an amateur, to follow the best evenings, asking for permission to film the artists, the audience, performances. And he did it with such energy, such enthusiasm and passion that he immediately entered the hearts of DJs, managers and professionals . So much so that his style had quickly become recognizable and recognized, imitated by many but never equaled.
Over time, his has become a job, appreciated and important. Fra was the “visual column” of the heroes of many boys and girls, the one who “showed you” the set, the festival, the evening , contributing to create the most powerful imagination that we know today. Between 909 is “the” brand of quality, the one you go looking for on YouTube or on social networks when you want to see or review a DJ at a festival. And above all, he is the one who codified, created the standards of this profession, born and raised, very often, together with careers that are important and international today. And there are many links between Fra at first professional and then human level, with many important realities on the world scene: Social Music City, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, Elrow, BPM Festival, Movement and many other top names.
But more than anything else, Fra was a friend to all of us . A beautiful, beautiful person, always smiling, always friendly in manner, generous in behavior, never snooty, never on the pedestal, despite the fact that he was now known by everyone and loved by the great stars of the console. Lover of company, good food, and of course music, Fra was tireless, in the console for hours with the camera in his hands, or immersed in the wings and the audience to find the most spectacular shot . His disappearance leaves us with a heavy and sad heart. He had long been suffering from health problems. It made no secret of it. He was being treated but the therapies did not seem to be effective. Yesterday, a long status on Facebook, in which he precisely recounted the worsening of the situation but with the hope of defeating evil. A little while ago, however, the news that we would not have liked to receive. Between 909 it is gone. We’ll miss him. What leaves us is a very important heritage for all of us who love music.
