Tagging #XXxxx

I’m gonna give this a go, for my own recalling of good input and bug reports etc Obviously it’s open and may be useful to others,

So i may be tagging this (if it was a good OT tip) for my own (re)searching later, in case it’s undocumented and handy, like so …

#OTtip

Will do the same with others e.g OTbug ARtip A4xxx MDxxx MMxxx AKxxx etc and maybe XXreq for request and XXlim for limitations !

Same goes if i retrospectively read through some of the old tips/reports/suggestions/limitations… might be useful, might suggest on other subpages, basically to stop good hints getting lost or to make them easier for me(all) to find

#XXxxx OT AR A4(rather than more correct AF) MD MM AK C6 tip bug req lim

Thoughts … .?

Only annoying thing is if things are spuriously tagged, ie tips which are obvious/documented or bugs which are user error or ideas which are just bonkers (that never happens though  )

a form of tagging isn’t a bad idea.
makes searching a whole lot easier. I know that allot of stuff people wonder about are discussed a million times, but it appears to be difficult to find for some… making them search for a keyword/tag is allot easier
#OTtip:midi or #OTtip:scene … or whatever clever you guys come up with.
good idea… thumbs up

Nothing wrong with the suggestion, it just may be harder to remember all the valid tag extensions, though they won’t inhibit the original #XXxxx search, plus it’s possible to tag a thread on scenes with a tag and search for #XXxxx AND scene e.g as a way to filter tagged tips, not sure if colon will give 'nats or google search grief either, but nothing to stop you making that extension (i suppose if it’s a quoted search it’s ok) :+1:

I want to put a little thumbs up icon here, but I don’t know how to make one (without copy/pasting)

It’s one of the emoticons on the reply page (3rd box from right)
Plus, Double ( Y Double ) should work

Like so … :+1: see page layout in reply page rightmost box

As somebody who lurks daily, can I be constructively critical and say I’ll find seeing you post these all the time… annoying? I watch to see which threads are getting fresh posts so I can follow discussions and it’s going to be annoying to click for a new contribution and just see your hash tag.

Also I feel like the type of person who uses an Octatrack is the type of person who perhaps enjoys diving into a forum and digging for tricks. I’ve been doing it with all my equipment on various forums for as long as I’ve been learning music and it’s really just part of the experience. Forum searching has never been amazing but I’ve learned how to work it.

I think you would be better off constructing some sort of wiki or a page of your own where you compile tricks and attribute them to users or something with links. Something like that would be useful to OT users of all levels actually. I’d love to see something like that!

So yeah, I just don’t think it really flows with how a message board works.

Yeah, i realise that artificially bumping old threads wouldn’t be ‘representative’ but if a comment is contributing to the common good i’ll add it along with a tag anyway, i’m going to tag my old posts (non bumping) and future posts (and wouldn’t object to other judicious adoption) but i’ll refrain from looking at it as an obligation, besides, i soon realised that almost all the posts can be attributed in such a manner which defeats the purpose of thinning a little, but i search backwards a lot, so this is for my benefit and i’ll keep it up, but fear not, there’ll be no gratuitous skewing tagging

some musings

most forums have bad search engines because they are new content, advert revenue based
so they dont want members finding answers in archives but want a new thread asking the same or similar query.

so for the most part forum s/w is crippled in that area

here it is a different story,
elek want a good search function as it will save time on the myriad of
“how do you do xxxx?” support requests from xxxx who dont read the manual
or take the time to learn it themselves.
