Synthstrom Audible Deluge [inc. Open Source development]

Any idea if we’re getting Audio over USB in a future community build?

That was before they knew how successful the open source firmware would be.

Ian from Synthstrom said they would not be doing that because way too many improvements have been added to the community firmware and the codebase has diverged so much that it would not make sense to do that.

Ian is recommending everyone use the community firmware.

The official community firmware releases can be considered as stable as official firmware releases.

It’s a possibility. The hardware does support it. But it requires a lot of work on the backend first before we can do it. There’s folks working on replacing the usb stack which should help get us closer to realizing the dream of usb audio.

Amazing. Thanks for the info. :facepunch:t3::level_slider::heartpulse:

I’m curious what device everyone is pairing with their Deluge, specifically for live sequencing from scratch. Anything fun?

I am doing the meditative jam thing, but specifically for improvised house tracks. I don’t want to ever stop playback to enter notes and I like to start with a blank template each time I sit down.

I’ve sold everything I own except the Deluge and haven’t found a good complimentary device that I click with yet.

Are you looking for a midi controller?

I posted a video previously of how I do live improv with the Electra one and my midi follow feature using just a kit and FM drums

I think a well mapped midi controller goes a long way for live improv jams so that you can continuously tweak sounds without thinking much about it

Midi fighter twister would also work well

If you have a midi controller for entering notes that would also well with midi follow, to record notes in live

I think I might follow you on that idea. Enhancing the deluge experience. I’m new to midi controllers - do you have to set yours up with each new project?

Nope midi follow works with every project. You just set it up once and it automatically works with every project. It works by controlling the active instrument you have selected (either by being in the clip, or by selecting the clip in song view (pressing and holding or pressing and release selects it)

So midi follow = auto channel in Elektron speak?

This is really cool. Anybody tried it already?

Loads of people. What do you want to know?

Just read up on auto channel, yes sounds like the same

MIDI follow let’s you:

  • control a selected tracks’ parameters (CC’s)
  • send notes to the selected track (for a kit it pre maps notes for all kit rows and you can customize what root note corresponds to the bottom kit row)

You can also use it to control external devices if you’ve selected a midi track

It also has midi feedback for the selected track. So it works with the Electra one and midi fighter twister so when you select the track you’ll receive updated parameter values for that track. If you make any changes to parameters on the Deluge itself it will send feedback to keep your controller in sync.

It comes with a default parameter to cc mapping but you can customize it as well

Auto channel re-invented :sunglasses:

I was interested to know, if it records for instance the full song structure in stems, how it handles side chain compression and how I can try it.

You can configure the stem export to include or exclude master song FX

With regard to sidechain, if you are exporting individual stems, I believe sidechaining is excluded because all the other tracks / clips are muted. It exports one at a time.

In the 1.2 beta build you can:

  • Export each arranger track individually as a separate stem
  • Export each clip in song view as its own stem

In the nightly build you can also:

  • Export the full arrangement (all unmuted tracks together) as their own stem

You can download the beta and nightly build’s here:

Thanks, so this is basically automating the exporting according to the expected mute/unmute behaviour. It is really a game changer for me! Fantastic feature!!!

Yup + we added offline rendering to render the stems wayyyy faster than using regular live audio resampling

What is happening on the FX/ performance FX front if anything ?

New mutable reverb

New 6op dx7 synth engine compatible with all dx7 presets

A warble mod fx and LFO shape was added to the nightly build

Grain fx was made much more efficient / performant so you can now use multiple instances of grain fx

You can route audio internally from clips to audio clips to apply another layer of FX / automation and there’s more work being done to add audio buses and control track FX

There’s work to make the other mod fx sound better (add stereo width, plus some other fine tuning)

There’s interest in making the delay sound better

You can automate / edit the automation for channel expression parameters in automation view (x, y, z - pitch bend, mod wheel, after touch)

You can modulate cv channel 1 using cv channel 2 in automation view

You can use filters on the FM synth

There’s work to add a LPF to the mutable reverb

There’s work to add a slew param to the random walk LFO

There’s many things happening at all times lol.

that’s what I meant, just what was happening on that front  thank you
