Synthstrom Audible Deluge [inc. Open Source development]

1.0.9 is not an official community release. I think, it is an alternative firmware with the great master compressor (and kit velocity and slicing). I really dig this version:

I’m in the same camp as you, including my rants on the inboard output quality. I’ve listened to some of my old Deluge tracks that I made on the Dellie only, including mix and primitive mastering, and I’m like - this isn’t half bad.

Despite increase, I still think it’s reasonably priced, too.

But I think I’d get arrested if I got one again. It’d literally be the fourth time.

Have you tried the community software? Definitely a good reason to buy again :joy:

Compressor crackling was a bug that has been fixed.

To me the only thing missing from the old compressor was the nice UI for editing the multiple parameters, but that will come back in time.

Now you have two types of master compressors: one knob and full. The full let’s you control the different parameters.

Also honestly the old master compressor clipped and distorted the audio way too easily. I hated how it made my drums sound.

Now with the new master compressor there’s basically a built in limiter in the Deluge.

Ha no  sold mine last summer, so I’ve been out of the Dellie game for about 18 months or so.

Since then, the new screen happened and then the community software. Which are both good reasons to get on board again.

But I can’t quite let go of the fact that I felt pretty strongly about the output quality, and back then I even had some SSL gear in my home studio, so it’s not like I couldn’t get a proper mix working. The source material just wasn’t quite there, when it came pouring out from the Deluge.

But I don’t know. I listen to some of my Deluge tracks and I’m like, what’s the problem? It’s not like the track doesn’t come through as is.

My Deluge is currently in New Zealand getting a new screen… held off for a while but ultimately wanted to embrace future updates and am betting my muscle memory won’t help me with new features as much as that OLED will.

I just released this album a few minutes ago (to so much fanfare… had to take a break from the crazy release party to post this :tada:). Might not be anyone’s cup of tea but it was recorded & produced entirely on the Deluge.

Mixed most of it on there as well, which most folks on here are aware means limitations and compromises. But my perfectionist side often loses which is why I still have fun doing this.

Long live the deluge :green_square: :blue_square:

These other features are all in the current communitry versions (along with the changes to the compressor), though, right?

Yes, that“s true. This inofficial 1.0.9 adds all features (that are important for me) and the better compressor imho.

but alter’s release is also based off a much older firmware version (it’s from July!) and you are not getting any of the drastic performance improvements and bug fixes of the current community firmware.

I’m talking way less dropouts, greater voice count, way less crashes. The current release candidate performs better than the official firmware in many respects.

and you’re missing out on a lot of other features like automation view, grid view, and so many more and in the future: performance view, master midi follow mode, looping improvements for audio clips, etc.

honestly, in my opinion, it does the community a disservice when we have a fractured user base using a firmware that is not up-to-date and which draws people away from trying out the exceptional ā€œofficialā€ open source release and provide feedback which could further improve said release.

sorry where is the beta?

Absolutely true. I don“t want to stop anything and it“s awesome, that so many people make the deluge better and better.
But I“m happy, that every user has the chance to use his prefered firmware. And the compressor is one of the most important updates for me. I “m pretty happy with this compressor.

Edit: I“ve installed the current community firmware and unfortunately, I“ve had many dropouts (this was never an issue before). Switched back.

That is not the beta.

We are also no longer in beta and now in Release Candidate. Official communication will be out soon about this.

ah! Official RC! nice Thanks

Alternate versions is of course something open-source explicitly enables and a wonderful thing for those with specific needs, but I’ll just note that the version numbering scheme selected by this particular alternate version is really, really unfortunate because it’ll just confuse people who’d be better off with the ā€œofficialā€ community version instead. This alter-alter version appears unmaintained since August, and those features seem to be in the main community version too.

I presume the RC doesn’t have the new performance mode stuff?

No it’s going to be part of the nightly (community) build soon (hopefully this weekend) which will become part of the next Release

The release candidate version had a new feature cut off a few months back so it’s been mostly bug fixes and fine tuning of the included features since then.

Can you just build up a long song/track in one arrangement?

Just keep going right >>>>

Or do you need to program loops to play in a chosen order?

According to what I’ve seen, you can make any clip 10,000+ bars. No joke
