Synthstrom Audible Deluge [inc. Open Source development]

Thanks. That was the goal :pray:t3:

I’m using the Roland J-6 to assist with my Chords on the Deluge:

Is that MIDI loopback? Whatcha using that for?

Just using the J-6 to play/record Chords on to the Deluge.

Has anyone that put down a deposit for the OLED retrofit and heard back from Synthstrom yet? I figure it will take a while, but just curious if anyone has been notified.

I put down a deposit in round 1 …

Looks like one of those wireless MIDI adapters. The dongle is for using MIDI out and in at the same time. Without it, it only does MIDI in, I think.

Oh that thing…sorry. Yeah, it’s the CME WIDI Bluetooth adapter. Makes it easier to connect to the iPad without cables…

Another moody bit for Thursday:

I also put a deposit down in the first round, and have yet to hear anything. I have heard of a few people on other forums who have sent theirs in and gotten it back, I think it’s just a slow process to get though so many.

This is great, it has a great Aphex ā€œAmbient Worksā€ vibe to it!

I have to confess I’ve fallen slightly out of love with the Deluge lately, mostly because I much prefer the sounds I have on my Digitone, and making complex beats on the Delly is much more complicated that it was on the Digitakt. But your videos have been serving as a counterpoint to that, they’re a great reminder that it all depends on the person’s creativity much more than the gear itself.

Thanks for the compliment.

I hear you on the joy of using the DigiTone. Fwiw i also go in and out of phases of using my gear from time to time. The Deluge has my focus for now but it isn’t perfect.

The great thing about having other pieces of kit is that we can use the ones which inspire us for the moment and continuously refine our workflows to achieve our desired results.

Making music isn’t a sprint…it’s a marathon…and for this i am eternally thankful

I saw this inspiring patch idea from @Stoss in the Deluge vs M8 tracker thread. I’ve yet to explore creating a patch on the Deluge, so looking forward to approaching this learning curve. Kind of reminds me of when I had a vocoder synth & microphone and tapped a vocoded beat with a coin.

I actually designed a synth patch that uses the internal microphone as the oscillator, and that synth then uses self oscillation of the filter that I can play polyphonically on the built in note grid… so… I can sit anywhere with the Deluge and essentially play the sounds of my environment with pitch control… in real time… and record that. So, I guess I’m saying it can also be a very experimental device which will keep your mind and curiosity occupied.

Thanks for the mention @TelePet. If I recall, I made a sequence of chord progressions for that patch that I would have running, and then I could gently and dynamically engage the expression of those cords by lightly tapping on the wooden cheeks of the Deluge. Without a sequence running, I imagine you could hold notes/chords like you would on a guitar, and engage them with expression like you would when strumming the strings. Anyway… now that you have reminded me of this, it’s probably something I should make a video or two using. Certainly ripe for the ā€œon locationā€ style recordings.

Having fun re-embracing the Deluge (it’s been two years!!)

Rhodes ran through an osc patch before printing to audio track
Guitar recorded via internal mic and then sliced into a kit
Water drops recorded via internal mic then pitch shifted & slowed down

Resampled back to the Deluge

Recieved a newsletter from Synthstrom this morning - new update for bug fixes soon (no new featuters) and some big software announcement in May.

ā€œ Those who went to Knobcon or Synthfest in the US may have see Deluge legend Michael Bulaw helming the booth for us. For Superbooth in '23 I’ll be coming myself (Ian) as we’ll have some special news for those waiting on software development  See you there in May or stay tuned for video announcements from the event - May 11-13, 2023.ā€

Okay, I’ll speculate  I’m guessing new FW will be a bunch of small, nice, less exciting features. It’s been over a year since they closed the feature requests, basically saying ā€œwe know all the requestsā€ … and we’ve seen very few of those come to fruition.

For example, some of the ā€œSOONā€ that we seen in the current FW. Or sustain pedal support so those Keyboard patches in the video above are more useful

Hopefully the sampler, especially chopping, will be easier to use. :crossed_fingers:

Give us an MKII, Rohan. 32-bit signal path. Multiple outs. Proper fx. A hardware to match the feature set. And we’re all in.

I hear you, but that seems to be pretty clearly not where they’re going. At least not for the next few years.

I’m already all in on it  (surely) we have different needs though. Playing with the Deluge is mostly just that, play. The overall output quality is not that important to me
