Roland t8
The Oxi ONE seems to be pretty neat on this.
ALGORITHMIC PATTERN GENERATOR
Get instant musical results with a fully controllable generator
Euclidean rythms
Drum pattern generator based on MI Gridsnew
RANDOM PERFORM
On the go non destructive randomizer:
- Velocity
- Octave
- Trigger
- Retrigger (ratchets)
- Time division
STOCHASTIC
Create the perfect recipe for an endless generative idea or melody.
MATRICEAL new
Forget everything you know about sequencing. A step further in generative improvisation.
And on the Black Edition, the way the buttons illuminate would be more suitable for me. It’s a very nice touch by Oxi.
Err, it’s literally a synthesizer since it has a synth engine.
Polyend Medusa has a cool pattern generator
Sorry, I stand corrected on the M+ as it has a some synth engines, but not the Play as it’s sample based.

Samples are a valid source for oscillators. Synthesizers have different components, and there many forms of audios synthesis, not just one.
A Digitakt also uses samples as oscillators, nobody is going to deny that the Digitkat is a synthesizer. Both devices are subtractive synthesizers.
The Digitakt doesn’t have random sequence generation though.
Polyend Play is a sample player, not a synth, period. You can’t even loop the samples and there is no filter enveloppe on this device, seriously words have a meaning…
I think if it can’t generate it’s own sounds, then it isn’t a synthesizer.

It obviously can or it wouldn’t make a sound, it just doesn’t have sounds in a ROM or in a lookup table, the oscillators need to be loaded in a RAM. It’s an implementation detail. The samples are still oscillators in a subtractive synthesizer.

“A sample player” is one kind of synthesizer. There is the category then there is the sub category related to the former. The encompassing category here is “synthesizers”. A drum machine is a synthesizer, a “sample player” is a synthesizer as well. Whether the oscillator loops or not is irrelevant to the definition of what an oscillator is. And the Play necessarily has envelopes, whether they can be tweaked or not by the user is irrelevant to the existence of envelopes inside the synth engine, they do exist.
It’s very unfortunate people here don’t understand what a synthesizer is at first place, on a forum dedicated to synthesizers. And that people can’t tell an encompassing category from a sub category. But I guess that discussion is off topic So I won’t pursue it further.
Yes thank you daddy to teach me what is a synth. Well, if I follow your way of thinking, a mixing board is a synth because it can produces a sound on itself with feedback ?
Where are the envelopes on your mixing table?
Ah, this is the condition to being a synth ? So a synth without enveloppe (a drone module for example) is not a synth ?
I’ll leave you here, have a nice day
Ah, this is the condition to being a synth ?
I never said that. I asked a question. If you can create an oscillator with a mixing table then it can be used as an oscillator.
Doesn’t change the fact that the Polyend Play IS a synthesizer. You ironically made the argument yourself with your “drone module”.
Hold me tight guys before it gets philosophical.
I love this forum.
Bastl Softpop II and the new Kastle ARP can both do random patterns.
I can say that East Beast is great to jamming
Pulsar-23 has the Shaos (S/H & Chaos) generator thingy that can be used to create “melodies”
Check the user manual for different Elektron boxes and if you find a random LFO, you probably may be able to play random samples, random sounds, random pitches, and so on and on… using that along with probability can get your sequences pretty wild and random
The Modor DR-2 can do random triggers as well as randomize any parameter, including pitch
