Circuit monostation comes to mind.
Can you load the “AFX” firmware to the regular BS2?
I always ignore “signature artist editions”, but that looks interesting
Both versions share this firmware yeah. The AFX version is more of a limited edition re-styling, maybe with some additional labelling to accompany those new features - an owner can confirm
It is indeed exactly the same machine with some different colours, printing and knob caps. Innards are exacctly the same.
My BS2 “classic” loads all the latest firmware without any problem.
WMD Crater, Kraken, Crucible and Chimera in a small 4ms Pod triggered by Shakmat Four Bricks Rook plus a mixer and some modulation and and and (there you have the problem)
Thats what I would love to do but I just havent got the money for it.
Nord Drum 3 looks the best bet! Check german ebay Kleinanzeigen
The 96 patterns and kits that URRRS provides for free make a good case for the Model:Cycles as inexpensive drum synth/sequencer (better than the case for melody, for me). If you have distortion (such as an Analog Heat) it gets even better. You can listen to them all at this link: URRRS COMMUNITY
If you sample it anyway, it can be anything because you can put effects like distortion on it. Model:Cycles is really not a bad idea.
In that sense, Volca Drum is cool too.
reading a bit above
Oh yes, the Bass Station II is an absolute monster. That one doesn’t need any effects to sound huge. I love it.

Volca drum! It’s awesome, two layer digital synthesis with a really cool resonator
not great for sequencing but awesome for sound design, I’m pretty sure there are ways to fine-tune your programming via the computer which is great cause the drum machine itself is a bit twiddly
I know you listed it already, together with 99% of current drum machines, but seriously Maschine or Mpc have a built in drum synth, which you can the resample and layer. The Mpc in particular allows you to layer 4 samples or, for more flexibility, link up to 4 pads, with samples triggering when you leave a pad if you wanted to. What more would you need?
Some nice hands-on synth hardware to sample into that mpc ![]()
Not a big fan of the volca’s. A bit tedious. But I’ll look into the Drum.
I forgot about the drumsynths in the Maschine. I also forgot how they sound. Never used them much
Thanks, I will Youtube the drum engine’s.
The link you provided to the Model:Cycles is the kind of thing I’m talking about!
But it’s hard to think he didn’t use a distortion pedal. Or is the M:C that brutal? I don’t think you can even get those kind of harmonics with the more advanced digitone
That video uses external distortion, but the clipping on the Cycles can get very extreme. There’s per track distortion plus you can blow out the master bus as demonstrated during @Ess’s set here: https://youtu.be/Ur-6JKo_3Ys
You can get similar effects on the Digitone too, it just takes a bit more work. But they both do blown out distortion very well.
In the video comments the person explains the use of 2 distortion pedals : one on each output.
And not everyone who tinkers with synthesizers on the internet is a boy

if you know better words tell me, as my english is definitely not the best
