Syntakt vs LXR-02

Are the Tonal Synths on Syntakt polyphonic or not? Thanks a lot!

Mono. There are several with 2 tunable oscillators and an additive synthesis ā€œchordā€ machine, but midi processing workarounds are necessary for polyphonic note entry.

Guilty as charged

I recently grabbed an LXR-02 and it’s very gritty!

I’m curious, does the Syntakt do cleaner sounds better? I’m imagining shimmering, liquidy cymbals and really smooth, resonant pitched drums.

2x Syntakt, not clean sounding

I’ve enjoyed my Syntakt for a little while now but still keep thinking about LXR02 because it just does more of that crunch I’m looking for.

I’ve had no problems taking my Syntakt to extremes but certain sonic signatures are just inherent to a box.

Honestly the damn Perkons is the best sounding machine for my music. I clicked with it immediately but found the price really hard to justify. Some day I may be able to go back in that direction.

Currently I have this super big brained bitwig template setup with Syntakt / Overbridge.

I’m processing each separate track with various tonal shaping and crushing effects, some spun up with bigwigs grid.

And I’m also using a few tracks on the ST to sequence these effects themselves adding another layer of manipulation.

I’m a studio musician anyways so I don’t mind being tied to a Daw in this way but I also really wouldn’t mind if the ST sounded a little more, idk, more hairy / gritty / staticky / clacky in the way Perkons always has to me.

LXR kind of has that vibe when I hear it.

Hey guys, don’t mean to hack the thread, but since the model:cycles is similar to the Syntakt, how do you feel the m:c compares to the lxr02? I saw this video and it seems to me that their in the same league, but I rather hear your opinions

I’ve had both and I’d say the MC is the wise, calm and polite big brother while the LXR-02 is the insolent, rude and crazy little brother who listens to nothing and drinks toilet water.

Wow, what a childhood you had

Tried both today at Schneidersladen, for me it’s no contest in terms of useability, sequence-ability and sound, the Syntakt is a BEAST.

Will have to buy one now, oh my oh my.

I still have my Syntakt and am still not selling my LXR-02. If I had neither and could only get one it would be the Syntakt. If the reasons for that aren’t completely obvious I would refer you to the previous post.

After sometime with the LXR-02, I’m now considering a Syntakt. Mainly because the LXR’s workfkow is a bit tedious.

What I think I will miss is the grittiness and, surprisingly, the faders.

I think the grittiness in the LXR has a lot to do with the various stages of distortion that you have but specially the SRR per voice and master SRR

So, a question to ST users: Is there a way to achieve that kind of SRR beats in the Syntakt? I think there’s only Sy BIts for that , right? Is that machine versatile enough?

Yeah SY Bits has built in bit reduction and sample rate. The clap machine can also get real crunchy.
Otherwise it would be about the overdrive per track and the FX block’s drive.

Lil update: LXR-02 seems awesome too. Maybe hold on to it a while if you try the Syntakt? Unless you know you love the Elektron sequencer already.

I now have a Syntakt on the way thanks to a fellow Elektronaut…I think the LXR02 has its own sound and its own place, digital, rough, rowdy…and it’s priced quite fairly, especially second hand. But I agree with @JL that the workflow is a bit tedious. In contrast, I was surprised how FLUID the Syntakt workflow is — and that’s despite me owning an OTmk2, A4mk1 and a Digitakt since day 1. Something about that Digi form factor just works for me, with the Syntakt in particular because no need to load/decide on samples…I guess that makes it even faster/more impressive for me.

I went to Schneidersladen because I wanted to test and buy an LXR02, never was interested in the Syntakt tbh (didn’t like the way ot was marketed and didn’t see its benefit over a RYTM or A4) but having tried it it was love on first jam (Rytm is great too, but that digi form factor just strikes the right balance between features and speed).

Agree on the faders of the LXR02, cool feature especially for performance.
