Beautiful!
Damn this sounds DOPE!

Great chip sounds! Never heard a C64 sound like this tbh
Hereās my chip pattn - digi dancehall inspired

What I really love about these SSLās is, remixing the ones youāve made with access to all the ST machines. This way, you keep the most innovative ideas of a pattn, but are free to use a more optimal machine for some other key sounds. Itās a nice method for coming up with original material, while still getting that full sound with ease.
Hey jm2c, great that you are at it again ![]()
Could I ask you to record an audio snippet of your contribution in this thread and the CY Alloy thread? Makes it easier for others to listen to your stuff.
My recording setup is not online ATM, Iāll try to get snips to my posts during the weekend
aand done
Iām still catching up in the lab.
This time Iām getting to the SY Chip.
Only 3 tracks on this one, but on the other hand, Iāve filled every single trigs with notes and percsā¦
T9 kick/snare/HH/percs
T10 Synth lead
T11 a kind of jaw harp

A long jam recorded directly in stereo in Ableton, but I shortened it in several places.

I finally got around to recording my contributions for some of the Labs after being away from a computer for a while.
I wouldāve loved to have done a chip tune for this one, especially as thereās the same 3 channels as the SID but Iām left feeling even more in awe of what composers managed to do with the C64. There are some great sounding tracks here though, which have taken the sound far beyond the classic chip tune, which I suppose is the whole point of the Labs.
A tonne more to explore with this machine, thatās for sure!

Nice! Impressive how much you can get out of three tracks of SY Chip.
Very nice hihat, it has an acoustic qualilty to it. How did you achieve that?
Thanks @Nils, the hihat is a Noise wave at +24 tune with no offsets, some overdrive and a HS filter set to 105 freq with 20 reso.
The Track has some Sound p-locks for the Kick and Snare which I found changes the sound of the hihat. I guess itās a bit like choking with open and closed hihats in that the p-locked Trigs interrupt the hihat, which also has a bit of delay so that gets cut short.

These are all brilliant @Nils, but especially love the Noise drones track! Do you know what pattern it is in that project file? Iāve had a scan through and pretty sure I couldnāt find it in any of the banks⦠keen to explore the pattern to see what youāve done here.
Hey @jawside thanks a lot! Iām out of the country atm, will check this after I get back, prolly Tuesday or Wednesday ![]()
Update: I went through my project and it seems to be pattern G03. See if you find it there?
Thanks @Nils!
3 tracks of SY Chip + FX track, 2 patterns.
T1 and T2 are slow arps with a few conditional lock trigs controlling machine parameters. T3 is the melody line. Lots of delay, reverb and some filter pan on the FX track.
Second pattern is the outro with a slow LFO controlling SPD.
Took me quite a while to get my head around this machine and get where I wanted to go⦠So much depth to it and only just scratching the surface, will definitely be using it more now I have a better understanding of it.
Forgot to comment on this. Lovely timbres and evolving melodies ![]()
this is still one of my fav chip examples. Can you explain this setup a little more. You are sending midi to three tracks from polyend synth simultaneously and using the arpeggiator on it?
Yep! Thatās basically it. Think of the Syntakt as the sound module in this case. The Polyend Synth was just sending MIDI clock and note info to the ST.
I was using a three-part layout on the P Synth and it was in its chord following mode. All three tracks were set to the same MIDI channels of three analog tracks on ST.
The first section had an arpeggio held and would lead the other two tracks by transposing them as I pressed a different note on the first.
The second track also had a held arpeggio that follows the first.
The third track is the same except that the arpeggio is not in hold mode. It will still transpose in relation to the first track, but only arpeggiates when I press a note on it.
I hope that makes sense!
super cool Iāll have to read up on the polyend synth those are some really nifty midi tracks for controlling external devices or pairing with elektron gear.
Yeah the Polyend Synth was really neat as a controller, but I found it superfluous and a little too buggy as a synth in my situation. I donāt have it anymore and Iām back to a keystep for playing everything. Thankfully I was able to sell it while it was still pretty in demand.
I wish they just made a controller with that functionality.
