Syntakt Science Lab #11: SY Tone

Hah, I totally hear that cop show vibe now that you’re saying it :grinning:

Thanks for the kind words. Would love to hear something from you as well. Loving a lot of the stuff you post in That Tonverk sound

I’ve made an actual video walking through the percussion thing with SY Tone.

6 track piece, inspired by Trentemoller

First 3 tracks make a chord with ramp lfo on mod depth and going through the fx track for lpf.

There’s one deep kick track and two top lines with this glassy pristine sound, drenched in verb and delay.

And here’s one, much more aggressive:)

This is 5 tracks, one is droning tone and the rest is percussion

I wanted to play with evolving drum sounds with ramp lfo on mod depth

@Oxenholme Nice tutorial and sound design! There is SO much to tap into on the SY Tone machine…

@mishpult Seriously impressive sound design and evocative atmospheres - as usual.

Thanks Nils! I know… And I have yet to fully dive into the melodic sound of things…

Everyone’s stuff sounds to different as well, which (next to all your amazing sounds design skills) really shows how versatile SY Tone is.

That’s all synthesis? Wow!

Yes it is! All Sy Tone

Definitely not diminishing any preceding part, because where it starts, leading the transition into and what happens after 44 seconds is lovely and has a BIG sound, with danceable melodic/rhythms

Hoping you come back to this.

Lovely! Every sound in there. Nicely done

Still need to listen to the next one, but this is impressive.

Damn, love where everyone is taking this.

Both by playing it more, and then listening to everyone else here, SY Tone might be my favorite machine.

Fairly uninspired ‘bass music’. 8x SY Tone and everything (except reverb) through the fx track for crunch and muffled boombox sound :stuck_out_tongue:

I had the idea to use tone to make a dungeon synth track and spent the afternoon working on it. This was an interesting genre to work in because dungeon synth tracks are usually pretty linear and don’t have a lot of looping. This is 11 8 bar patterns played in a row. I’ve been messing around with UK garage drum patterns so when the beat comes in on the second half of the song I was going for a shuffled ukg feel.

Not super happy with the snare drum, I need to practice more with tone. I tend to reach for other machines because Tone is so open ended. Tone is currently my favorite digital machine for hats though.

Just having fun messing with melodic percussive parts.

Ran into an issue, where song mode turns back on FX track routing, even after saving. Thought I was going crazy for a moment, but in the end I’ve given up trying to change some of the routing and/balancing, so it might be a bit quiet, with some more grit than intended. *But it is just for fun! So gotta stop here.

Very musical, love it! This is a perfect video game soundtrack

Here’s one that you might need headphones to hear the detail of. Tried a closed, room sound and some delicate delay tweaking.

Some interesting timbres, when I start ctrl-all

Love this! Funny enough, just this morning I saw a poster in another thread telling of how quickly returned his Syntakt because of how limited and basic it is. Those folks really need to check out the SSL’s.

This thread is filled to the brim with great sounds and music

I hope some of it will be refined further and end up on a release or two (or more)

One last SY Tone. A rework of an old one from That Syntakt Sound. Playing around with p-locking delay times.

Bumping this lab for a bit because someone asked about crunchy IDM on the Syntakt and I thought SY Tone would make an excellent candidate. 3 tracks, neighbour conditions, lots of p-locking and lfo FM crunch

@Flekk Project file for my SY Tone patterns.
Dusseldorf - head to patterns G15-G16.
Also, there’s some related stuff in patterns F09-F12.

Have fun
