Syncronize Logic song position with AR song mode

Hi everybody

I was wondering if there is any way of syncronizing an actual song in Logic with the song mode in the RYTM.

This is what I want: when I move the cursor in Logic, let’s say to bar 22, I want the AR to move to the bar 22 of the current song loaded. The current behaviour is a bit strange, at least for me, when I move the Logic’s cursor, I can see the position in the AR moving, but when it reaches bar 4 it jumps again to 1, so if the logic cursor stopped in bar 5, AR would be in bar 1 again.

Thanks in advance!!

Anyone? Please help!!

it works for me

i use USB to connect rytm to logic

in logic…project settings-synchronization-midi and check midi clock sent to Analog Rytm

in the rytm midi config menu you have to check clock receive and transport receive

that should work

i’m also using logic pro x

this isnt what hes asking. what this does is just sync the clock and start/stop of clock from logic. so if you move to the middle of the song in logic and start the clock, it starts the AR from the beginning of its pattern. im not sure its possible to do what op wants

OK there must be another setting hidden in the RYTM, because I have the same settings in logic and it doesn’t work.

In addition, I cannot use the program changes because they don’t change the program immediately, but wait until current pattern is finished, even when you alter the behaviour from the RYTM (I think someone posted about this before).

It’s kind of hard to use the AR with logic I guess. In addition to this problem, and although I am not experiencing any clock issues, when I start playing sometimes the AR starts from the beginning of the pattern, but in most cases it starts from a different position (like the first 1/16 note, or maybe smaller) and I have to stop, reposition the cursor and try again playing :frowning:

Make sure time signature is not the issue.
If AR’s patterns are anything other than perfect 4/4 time (i.e. 16/16, 64/64) that may throw off Logic.

There’s no way that Logic (or any DAW0 set as Master clock will know that there are patterns that are in odd lengths…

To try this - build a simple song with, say, 8 patterns, all 16/16 and see if it is still problematic.

Another thing to test is if your RYTM is set to USB+MIDI…I would say, if you use USB, just use that in the settings.

When you say that sometimes the AR starts from the beginning of the pattern, but other times from something other than the first step, are you taking note of where your cursor is in logic? Because that’s the way that song position midi info works: your DAW will send out a message relaying its starting position on the timeline. I’m using ableton, and if I place the cursor at zero and have sync engaged on the AR, it starts at the beggining of my pattern. If however I engage play from say 3.1.1, the AR will play back starting from the middle of my pattern (step 33).

So if this is in fact working for you in this manner, that would be half the battle. Beyond that, make sure you’re actually in song mode on the AR so it will follow your DAW in a way that corresponds to your song. What you described in the OP works for me in Ableton; I’d be surprised if it doesn’t in logic.

Sometimes when I place the cursor at 1.1.1 it won’t start from the beggining of the pattern, but from other place, like a 1/16 after the beginning. However, it’s random I guess, because when it starts from other place my workaround is stop playback, place the cursor in the same position again and see what happens (and sometimes it starts from the beginning of the pattern).

I tried with song mode, I have a test song consisting in 26 repetitions of 1 pattern of 64 steps and then 12 repetitions of another 64 steps pattern. If I turn on the song mode and I place the cursor at 7.1.1, the AR starts in the first occurrence of the pattern, but from step 33 (second half of the pattern). The correct behaviour should be that the AR starts from the second repetition of the first pattern, and from the step 33

this isnt what hes asking. what this does is just sync the clock and start/stop of clock from logic. so if you move to the middle of the song in logic and start the clock, it starts the AR from the beginning of its pattern. im not sure its possible to do what op wants[/quote]
you are wrong thats exactly what i gave instructions for…
if you are in song mode and move it to the 30th bar in logic…it will skip to the proper place on the rytm

Thanks JÔB, that’s what I am trying to achieve, but unfortunately it doesn’t work with my setup. You connected the RYTM through MIDI right? Any other setting you can think of?
If you stop and they resume playback, it follows the song position right?

i connected with an usb cable…
i’m not in front of the equipment right now. i will check for any additional settings when i get home. i started a brand new logic project to make that video and only took the steps i outlined above though

probably already mentioned, u need mtc in midi settings

JOB, great sounding drums btw:)

thanks elevatetron!

Thanks again for your answers! I started a new project and it is better, I guess my Logic project had something wrong in it. Could be the program changes I had, although the track was muted…

However, with a new project, Logic sync with the current song in the AR, but the bar counter in the AR sometimes doesn’t show the current bar in song.

I can live with that for now
