Syncing Digitakt with Korg Gear and Sampling with Digitakt Question :)

Hi fellow Elektrnauts, first time posting. I’ve got two questions

Apologies as Im new to making music and using gear in general so this might be really basic.

Q1: How do I sync my digitakt, Volca FM and Volca Sample together?

  • Currently I have the Volca FM connected to the digitakt via Midi IN. This appears to send clock fine. To pass the clock on to the Volca Sample Im running a sync cable from the Volca FM to the Volca Sample. This in my mind should work but its not. Connecting the sample to the FM cancels the Digitakt Master Clock for some reason and the FM become master for the sample?

  • I have similar issues with my Korg Monologue. Can anyone with experience and smarts tell me the best way to clock all this gear together. Possible answer is to buy a midi thru box? If I can do this without spending money that’d be nice.

Q2: In regards to recording and using samples with the Digitakt can someone tell me the best way to set this up. Currently If im playing a guitar into the digitakt or sampling a little piano to use for lo-fi I have to go through the process of matching the track TEMPO to the sample so that it plays a clean loop.

  • Is there a smarter way of going about this process? A process that would allow me to keep the loop-ability and enable me to choose tuning etc after the fact would be SUPER neat. Any advise in this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for any comments, apologies its a wordy post

For syncing get a quadra thru on any other midi splitter

This should work if you have your ins and outs connected correctly. It should be as follows:

Digitakt MIDI OUT → Volca Sample MIDI IN
Volca Sample SYNC OUT → Volca FM SYNC IN

This worked for me using Octatrack + Volca FM + Nanoloop for a show last year so it should be the same with the above setup.

edit: also I think you need to use a stereo cable between the sync OUT/IN on the volcas.

The advantage of using a midi thru box is that the Volcas will start and stop in perfect time with the DT. When using Volca sync, the synced Volcas have to be started manually

Wow guys,

Really pleased to see such a great response, i normally don’t use forums as it can be intimidating but its encouraging to see noobies like me can pop in for those trickier problems. I believe I understand my issue a lot more now. If i want all the benefits of using the DT as master then it looks this MIDI box is a must have.

Do you guys have any suggestions on my sampling issue? I’ve been playing around with a piano sample this morning experimenting with detuning etc. However each time i detune the sample the playback is either too short or too long. Feels like going in circles to get the sample to loop back cleanly. Is there a better workflow or process I can use to quickly get a sample to loop through the DT cleanly and at a tuning I like.

Its probably something like set BPM you will use then detune sample to enjoyable sound then shortern the playback? I dont know feels like im missing a step.

Appreciate your help
