Sync drift issues

OT is following TR8s or Midronome clock via a midi hub (iConnectivity MioXM).

Getting some significant drift. This has never happened before in 4 years of using this same setup - I haven’t changed the setup very drastically, but i did change the midi cable and will try a new one today. The tempo reads correctly on the BPM page and fluctuates a normal amount via what it’s reading, but the drift is noticeable after even a few minutes.

What should I check other than the usual midi sync settings? And swapping the cables used?

Do OTs ever just get … old and wonky?

Also had an issue where sound just stopped playing, reloading the project helped but again - hadn’t changed anything.

Users do. At least me. :content:

Nothing particular to set on OT.
Avoid too long midi cables, too many gear with daisy chain (in/thru, in/thru, etc).

Midi has its limits. Do you send more midi data than before ?
Continuous midi messages like Control Change, PitchBend etc can perturbate clock.
Too many notes too.

I’d make tests with only clock, then add tracks, in order to indentify what makes drift.

You can also use a midi monitor to check what midi data is sent.

I just realized there is actually something relatively new in my chain: I used a new midi cable from OT THRU to pass clock my H9. I have no idea why a cable downstream would affect a device upstream but it’s worth changing it back to the old cable to see. As well as your other advice too:)

 I remember a discussion about a “power loss” with OT midi thru or something, with @darenager IIRC…
