Good idea. Honestly I still didn’t try the impulse import thing in Pro-R2. Maybe this could be good set to start with.
I really like nova. It’s bands are parallel not serial, so if you’re using it for multi band dynamics control (which it is partially built to do) it sounds much smoother and less phasey than something like pro mb that has its bands in serial.
I own their bundle and use every piece of it. I like how not glamorous and just here to do a good job all their plugins are.
was waiting for this. been having fun w/the demo for a while. it’s a nice take on this kind f thing. it’s fast. it’s fun. i like it.
I thought of you when I saw that post!
i’m very blob
Can anyone who has both tell me why I might need this is if already have Pigments? This looks like a Pigments-cousin at first glance.
I have both and I now only have pigments installed. They are very different and lion is different at best with pigments being more feature complete IMO. Lion’s strength lies in modulation and that’s a non-issue for me as I use modulation from the DAW. I say pick up vital or surge, both are free.
Lion has some unique oscillator types I have not seen outside of eurorack systems or Reaktor. I suspect at least some came from @trickyflemming’s dissertation, and his EuroReakt project.
Lion can be quite wild.
Lion definitely goes to more experimental/modular places. This demo really sold it for me in terms of the sound design possibilities.
That said, I’ve used Pigments (and Unfiltered’s other plugin Battalion) way more.
UAD has two plugun packs available on Sweetwater for $50.
One is their producer essentials which comes with
Teletronox LA2A
Pultec EQ
Roland’s Space Echo (Galaxy Tape Echo)
VERVE Analog Machines
Century Tube Channel Strip
Oxide Tape Recorder
Pure Plate Reverb
and PolyMax Synth
The Guitarist Bundle has
Galaxy Tape Echo
Brigade Chorus
Lexicon 224
Studio D Chorus
Telephonic la3A
and Waterfall Rotary Speaker
I’ve heard great things about them, but be forewarned, they require Ilok which I personally loathe, but it’s a great deal that I’m willing to suffer through.
He’ll of a lot cheaper than UADs own website.
In case anyone didn’t already know, a group of people have been hard at work porting/cloning VST versions of synths that use the Motorola DSP56300 chip. They’ve crafted plugin versions of the Waldorf’s Microwave Micro Q, Virus A, B, C, TI2, and the Nord 2X, that use the original ROMs from these devices. Pretty cool stuff, and they also sound great. Here’s the site for more information.
I compared the virus and it sounds even better than the hardware version. I didn’t know they had a nord as well. Is this in beta?
Yes it appears to be a work in progress. Good to get confirmation about how it compares to the HW as I don’t own one.
Those are the same price at UAD website atm.
Yes but of purchased individually…
Sorry. Trying to save face here.
Got the Virus TI a month back, finally quashed my regret for selling my TI
Also it seems there are Waldorfs MW2/XT and Q in pipeline as well as Nord 3. And Novation Nova/Supernova and Nord Modulars are in the chart of synths using the chip, so maybe one day… Especially the Modular would be freaking cool.
Waldorf XT is already there, in beta. Works and sounds creat. Does eat a lot of CPU. I’ve yet to do a real head-to-head to my XT, but from playing with it it seems to sound extremely similar. No surprise, as only DA conversion might give the original a different colour.
A few nice things on here at discounted prices
Cool. Didn’t know that. I have the Waldorf M, so have part of that territory covered in HW. But with the prices of these old units I can’t afford the real deal. If I ever get accidentaly rich, I would like Q.
