Does anyone have suggestions for how to manage projects on the machine when using Total Recall via Overbridge? Specifically, are you using one project per song on your DAW?
Otherwise, there’s the potential to accidentally overwrite changes in a project by inadvertently syncing to an older version of the project via OB and then saving it to the machine.
For example:
- Project A is used in Song A in my DAW w/ OB
- I close my DAW, come up with a new pattern on the machine while still working in Project A. I save the newer version of the project to the hardware.
- I open my DAW and start working on Song B in my DAW that uses this new pattern in Project A
- Now I go back to Song A in my DAW, if I choose to use the plugin state, it loads an older version of the project without any of the more recent additions
- I close the DAW and now the machine still has the stale version of the Project A. That newer pattern that I used to start building Song B is gone.
I realize that OB will have saved everything needed for song B, so it’s not a total tragedy if I accidentally save Project A in its stale state. I also realize that when going back to the older Song A, I could’ve chosen to use the device state and thus not overwrite any recent changes to the project. But if I always have to use device state when opening older songs, what’s the point of total recall?
So is the best way to get the most out of Total Recall in OB to use a project per song?
