Which gears by Elektron are best for attaining a Warp Records Aphex sound?
Not looking to copy just really enjoy the drums and sequencing he does, same for the other groups on Warp as we know Elektron seems deeply influenced by these genres.
Particularly I am fond of the percussive sound, for a bit I had a RYTM encountered some hardware issues and took a break, willing to give it a go again, thoughts anyone?
Just looking to be pointed in the right direction, I was a bit between the Digitakt/Tone combo or just picking up RYTM again and fingers crossed it doesn’t have the hardware issues my old one did.
@toot Excellent call, the Collapse EP is my absolute favorite when it comes to RDJs drum sequencing, yeah no big here to get a new RYTM as I know it’s worth it and I’ve been missing mine.

Edit: with RDJ I always assume the Cirklon has some involvement.
Frankly, almost any elektron machine could get you there, I’d say. Digitone, model:cycles, rytm, Octatrack, I guess it just depends on what sound you are looking for.
@cold_fashioned This is more/less what I thought, I think I will get back to using RYTM and have a closer look at Digitone to add. Have an inkling feeling there will be a new Elektron sampler soon, maybe not this year but I do have a fascination with OT just probably good to focus on the drum machines and grooveboxes for now.
Good take, I found this is where the leads, pad and mono sounds like much of the time, being ran into one of the units you mentioned. I have some pedals I use which get close! MonoMachine was a thought but Digitone seems a bit similar, if used with Digitakt, RYTM, etc.
Wow thank you so much, by this I mean everyone commenting, just rediscovering Mindmelt, totally fascinating love these sounds. I did go back and forth if RYTM was needed, love those Collapse drums, but this nails so, so much with Digitone!
@phaelam Absolutely agree, that’s why I want to use Elektron boxes, I have my own polyphonic synths, and monos, etc, the one thing I really can’t do with them are some of the sequencer tricks, I am waiting pondering a Squarp for the Prophet and others. For me I just want a simple groove station, I always find these artists and genres relaxing to listen to and create if even for my own piece of mind.
Thank you! I actually did get on the list for a Cirklon, I love microtonal scales, one of the reasons why I referenced RDJ he’s very good with them, just bonkers.
Agh I have the lurking suspicion some of the sounds I like are probably Cheetah sequences.
Side note love those rubbery sounds, I make them on my monos but the tight sequencing of his Cirklon makes it so wonderful!
