Subtle Grit Effect Settings for a Machinedrum Audio Loop

found a cool combination to put some grit on a recording from a Machinedrum, without going overboard …

Machinedrum recording made with the incoming signal giving a solid yellow input on the l.e.d.

the Machinedrum was sequencing samples using the rom machines … Main Volume of the machine is a couple of millimeters away from 100 percent.
Octatrack’s Mix gain for the AB input is at 9, a slight increase of gain.

a 4 bar sample recording is made to Track 6.
two effects used on the playback of Track 6: Filter and DJ EQ.

:::

FX1: Filter

One adjustment is made to the main screen of the Filter effect setting:

Width: 123

Doubleclicked the FX1 button to access the Dist setting of the Filter:

Dist: 32

:::

FX2: DJ EQ
only two adjustments:

Hi Gain is set to -3

Mid Gain is set to -2

:::

very subtle adjustments but the cool sound that happens is kind of gritty without losing clarity.
and the occasional toppiness of the Machinedrum is ever so slightly tamed without any sense of a muffled drum loop.

i also set the Individual Volume of Track 6 to minus 2, adjusting Level as required for the mix.

Ah nice! I keep forgetting that there is a distortion setting for the filter.
