String Armonica mkII

A MIDI sound module built around real strings.

There was a String Armonica mkI that sold out. The Soundstone folks not only made some improvements to the mkI design but also reduced the price by almost half.

Out of my price range for a niche instrument but extremely cool and has a beautiful sound. I love to see adventurous combinations of electronics with traditional forms of acoustic instruments. The Sound Stone sustainer is one of my favorite guitar tools as well and I hope this company can keep expanding their efforts.

I’ve been thinking about getting a Reverend RG-SUS guitar for the built in Sustainiac, which costs about the same as this. One thing I particularly like about the RG-SUS is the Sustainiac on switch being located within easy reach of the picking hand - no need to move your hand away from the strings to another part of the guitar like on other factory guitars with built in Sustainiac.

Decision depends on how I’m feeling and what I’m thinking when I get my tax return money.

It looks like strings are only excited magnetically, like an e-bow. Makes me wonder how it gets such short attacks… E-bows have to build up the vibration, they could never do that.
