I have been attempting for the last hour to get my Digitakt and Digitone to sync to Cubase over USB MIDI at the same time, but only one or the other will work at a time. Curiously, when both are connected to my computer, they’re simultaneously named either Digitakt or Digitone, and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to this. Typically I sync all of my jams without Cubase inside of MIDI-OX using Octatrack as the master - this works flawlessly.
I’ve tried this in two scenarios so far. The first involves using Cubase to send MIDI clock and transport to all of my USB devices, which works fine on every piece of gear I have connected this way except the Digitakt and Digitone. I’ll select both in the sync settings of Cubase, then try to play in Cubase, but only one plays. When returning to the sync settings I see that one of them (again, they’re both named the same on all parts of my PC) has been deselected. Something does not seem to recognize that there’s two distinct devices being used here.
In the second scenario, I instead ran MIDI-OX in the background and used it to route MIDI from the Octatrack (uses a MIDI to USB cable) out to every other device, which again always works fine. Then I loaded Cubase and send clock from the program to the OT. This worked fine for a few minutes, but after spending up some time setting up audio tracks, it went to a condition where only the first step or two of every device would play, and then take on an ambiguous status (like play and stop both highlighted on the machine) with no more sound output. So it sounds like a giant stab and that’s it. I also tried loading MIDI-OX after Cubase was loaded, but then the Digi boxes give me a memory error when attempting to load them into routing areas. Very frustrating!
To elaborate a bit more on my setup, I’m using Cubase 5.5.3 on Windows 7. I have a Digitakt, Digitone, Octatrack, Beatstep Pro, iConnectMIDI4+, and DSI Tempest all connected via USB with an Elektron OverHub. As mentioned, the routing with USB MIDI works fine outside of Cubase, but in Cubase specifically the Digi boxes aren’t playing very well right now any advice appreciated!
