Sticking with the OG Digitone

I would also add couple more things I really wanted to be added to DN are not there anyway

  • no fixed ratios - even if they add this to DN2, would that be like 5 pages menu diving?
  • no perfomance macros mode like on A4
  • rip bigger trig buttons
  • unless I’m missing something KB SCALE still per track and not per kit - I cannot imagine setting up KB SCALE 16 times per pattern…

so that’s at least 4 more good reasons to keep the OG

The OG comes with a global-mode…that helps a lot with managing volume/effects settings across patterns.

Mjeah… change 8 of them to midi tracks and you have exactly double the amount of what the OG has (4 tracks 8 voices + 4 midi tracks)

Keeping mine for now. It’s not seeing enough use as it is, and I need to get my inflow of gear down and outflow of music higher

there’s no global mixer? that’s weird… if you u run external audio you need to setup per pattern?

Presumably no, since it’s still not on DTII either. I imagine it will come in an update eventually. DTII still hasn’t had its first major feature update yet but there will probably be parity between devices on the same architecture, which two devices now share.

no it’s not, it’s keytracking for the offsets, it’s not fixed ratio as in let me put frequency and multiplier
and only for the operators, not the carrier

Stupid question - are the 3 new machines polyphonic (within a single track) - from one of the vidoes released today, it appears to me that the Wavetone and Swarm can’t play chords?

Only reason I got two OG Digitones was the low polyphony for unison and extra 4 for channels for drums. Don’t need 16 channels for that. 8 is more than enough.

Suprised that they did’t include fixed ratios for each operator on the DN II which has been a long request for my part for the OG DN. Expands the sonic capabilities.

Really like the 4 Track buttons on the OG…also on the analog products. Bank-Button for sound-Library is very fast option to go your favorite list of sounds.

As far as I can tell, if you already own a Digitone and a Syntakt (which I do), then you probably don’t need a DG2…

Zero interest in digitone mk2 from me.
I’ve got a digitone. It’s a great synth, even though it’s cramped and annoying and has those shitty buttons with goo coating we all yet Elektron keeps fucking churning out.

I’ve got enough toys. Plus I just got a new (old) Electribe, which kicks the arse out of digitone anyway.

what I mean is the same way Live Operator works, when you set an operator in fixed mode you can use frequency and multiplier to set the frequency of the wave, take a look at the bottom operator A and C here

  • Fixed frequency - An operator running in fixed frequency mode will produce the same frequency no matter what note is being played.

so in DN2 they only added keyboard tracking for the offsets but it’s not fixed frequency mode

Using a digitone key, I don’t want to sell it to take a DN2. But need to admit, DN2 is not an upgrade, it’s a really full feature groovebox here which keep DN1 features. But when I think about that, I say to myself with my syntakt I have already enough track to play with. So won’t upgrade until a DN2 keys

Maybe. Not entirely convinced yet. But we’ll have to see whenever one has been exploring that in detail.

What’s wrong with the yellow OLED? Is it just a question of not matching the more recent boxes?

You can always parameter lock one of the op frequences but can’t be played with the keys.

you can’t, you can plock the ratio or the offset, but it’s not the same and it’s always bound to the note

Keeping my DNK because it’s radical. Waiting for DNK2.

The DN2 doesn’t grow many capabilities of the DN. It just adds more, different ones. Which, by definition, makes for a less focused box. And I really appreciate the focus of the OG DN.

Plus, for real, I’m not ready to give up those iconic neon track buttons.

But also, I’m in the “limitations breed creativity” crowd that genuinely enjoys the puzzle of getting more out of a box and whose music is improved by that struggle. So the few capacity boosts like voice/track count don’t speak to me. I can see them being enough reason for other, less Luddite users to upgrade, though.
