Been on the lookout for some Elektron gear for a while, with the MK2 out and about I scored a nicely priced DN OG. Amazing, and haven’t been able to put it down. A week later, I picked up a DT OG. Wasn’t planning on it, but I like the OG units better, and didn’t want to miss out on a brand new DT while I can.
The reason I got the DN was to move away from DAWS, and to only use them at the end of the production. The DN is purposeful, complex but approachable, super usable and fun. I feel like the Mk2 releases went too far for me, I like the “limited” functions of the OG units. I feel like with the MK2’s I’d get to the same spot I got with DAWs, information overload, debilitating amount of options, you can make anything and therefore make nothing.
is DN2 not made in Sweden?
I don’t think it is. I have the Digitakt 2, and it’s made in Poland.

Reverb says the Digitone 2 is made in Poland as well.
(I do want to say, my Digitak 2 is built extremely well.)
interesting all my Elektrons are made in Sweden, but M:C is made in Eastern Europe.
Maybe Elektron might have outsourced manufactured to Poland and Eastern Europe to improve profit margin? who knows
Have my og DN, will be waiting several years to hash out kinks. will hope by then they’ll have a DNII keys as well
Wow, so many textures.
I usually ignore video content. But man, I’m really glad I clicked yours! This might be one of the best DN showcases out in wild without doubt. And this doesn’t even do it justice. I’m speechless.
Many thanks @Leonsarmiento @B_LD !
Original DN is so good i might still discover ways to play it until Digtone III.
We all know elektron can not count to 3…
Name a « Groovebox » that has a III/3 on it.
For me NI doesn’t count, I hate their support and marketing strategies.
Prophet is a Synth and a revision is what it is.
Can we count MPCs? I don’t see any III/3.
Digiton3
Fair point regarding Maschine.
TBH, I also think excessive revisions or MKs kill innovation. I feel like Akai has been selling the same thing for 3 decades for example. Like Apple.
But let me say, anything is a groovebox if you’re brave enough.
I must say I’m very tempted by an OG DN for €400, but do I need one if I already have an Opsix?
I know people say that the Opsix is sound design monster so would a DN be somewhat redundant or does anyone else use one alongside another FM synth?
Don’t know the Opsix that well but I would assume it would depend on your view of the power of the Digitone sequencer and how useful that would be both in stand alone sound creation and also as a MIDI sequencer…I see them going even cheaper for 400 these days if you keep an eye out.
There’s a lot of people using the digitone with another FM synth. Some even run a double digitone set-up.
Furthermore the DN is quite unique when it comes to filters, sequencer, midi capabilities, etc. At the current price point you really can‘t go wrong
I already have a DT so my thoughts are that I probably have the sequencing covered with that.
My interest is somewhat piqued by the ‘simplified’ version of FM on the DN, and having a unified workflow across the DT and DN.
Ya, I think it’s the price that is attracting me more than anything…
Digitone is a lot more fun but opsix sounds better imo (and more sound design capabilities). If you are already sequencing on dt, i dont think it offers much, unless you prefer to work with synth sounds rather than samples.
I would save for the digitone 2 Made me sell the opsix at least.
