Sticking with the OG Digitone

nope, i was surprised but the imported projects sounds identicals , i was pleasantly surprised
i can continue my work on DN2 without compromise , the only difference is due to random lfo wave now has a slew instead of phase. anyway i’m sticking with my OG too , i don’t want to sell it for now

yes so you can push the overall loudness in general , my bad i didn(t expressed myself correctly

Same engine, just with more tricks.

Any examples of the DN covering Pan Sonic or Emptyset territory?

Not only sticking with the OG but upgraded my FM game by adding the OpSix.
If I were completely OTB DN2 woulda been good to focus on, but I prefer the hybrid workflow and I feel I gain more this way. I also dislike the machine paradigm and can barely function with the 4 tracks even without the added machines. That’s also why I haven’t even considered Syntakt tbh.

I read somewhere that new one has new audio processing technology, and Substan said that the new one sounds a bit more hifi, so I dunno but there’s that.

It’s possible that the DSP offload gave more possibility for oversampling, but “cold” and “not lush” would be more out of scope for the overall rendering engine if you placed the same Digitone machine patches side by side.

New filter and routing possibilities are definitely why you’re hearing the industrial creep through

I do need to have one in front of me to speculate in more detail, we’ll see if I can deny that for a full year of Keys.

So @ylva just added a third one to this list! Plus the following:

Slew for the random LFO is actually what i need for these random overtone fm i use frequently, you can mix lfo 1 and 2 to get the same effect, but the LFO is taken just for that purpose.

Anyway, still good to employ the DN and learn it inside out first. I dont want a preset player, and i learnd to use velocity mod more in Vital to make sounds dynamic. Such a good teacher. Actually all Elektron stuff is. I think i keep the DN1 for the additonal outputs alone.

I’ve noticed the smudgy sounds too compared to the og DN (at least from what I’ve heard on YouTube), and I wonder if the FM algorithms and filtering sound different compared to the og digitone. Would be interesting to hear some side by side comparisons. I’m still waiting for my DN2 to ship here but that’s probably the first thing I’ll do.

Ive been in technology basically the better part of the last 43 years, and this image brings me great pain. I am in pain. My pain can be resolved by allowing me to clean this.

Okay so how does this happen? I’ve owned my A4 mkII for 4 years and use it nearly every day and the keys are pretty much perfect. Is it sun damage? using disinfectant on the keys? My DT I’ve had for years and years is the same.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Spiderwebs?? I think that digitone went through a flood or something, and someone just fished it out of a bog.

My 1 year old syntakt is as clean as the day I took it out of the box, and I use it for on average 8 hours per day. Its cover isnt even on it most of the time because I use it so much, but I use cleaning cloths on it every day. Dust and prints do not build up, like with the rest of my instruments. CLEAN THAT DIGITONE OMMMG

This, give people* more colors and they’ll mud them right up.

*me, before I step back from the novelty of maximalism.

I have to admit, this was part of what eventually sold me on the DNII as someone who’s only used FM via software and (kind of) via the ST.
