Step mute

Hello, I’ve created a simple melodic sequence by live recording using chromatic mode, but is it possible to mute any step while the sequence is playing and then unmute it again while keeping the pitch?

If you’re trying to make a variation, make it a conditional trig using a fill condition is the easiest way to achieve what you want, or use one of the X:Y conditions so those steps only trigger on certain repeats.

Final way - just copy to another pattern remove some notes/trigs and flip between them

Thank you.
I thought it would be even more fun if I could do the same thing as the active steps in sequencer mode that were equipped on Korg’s sequencer-equipped synths and the SQ-1.

You can also hold function and press a step, this will turn it yellow.

This is not an actual mute as such as any p-locks will still have an effect but the sound itself will not play.

Push just the step again to reinstate.

Not perfect but might be of use.

I’ll share a performance trick that I use very often. Lock the main Steps (main Melody) to 100% and leave the Steps you want to mute (variation) without any lock. Now, if you turn the Probability to 0%, you will only hear the lock Steps (main Melody) and if you turn it back to 100%, you will hear it with all the Steps.

If you push the Encoder and turn the knob fast, you can go almost instantly from 0% to 100% and vice versa.

That’s genius. Despite reading, this how the probability works, I instantly forget and almost never use the per-track probability. I’ll definitely remember this time (probably)

It’s crazy how you can do so much with a single pattern on these devices, with the DT2 and 16 tracks I’m finding I’m using spare tracks where I’d normally use a pattern to introduce some change/variation

Thank you. This may be the most useful way to control step on/off in real time. Thanks for the useful information.
