We now have a bunch of Stem Separation options (Serato, MPC Stems, iZotope, Koala, etc) that does the standard Drums-Bass-Instruments-Vox separation.
But, is there anything that can split up drum mixes yet so you can isolate individual elements of a drum mix? Seems like it could be the same AI tech repurposed…
…not on latest logic version…but if ur on mac, feed it’s stem splitter just with a drum track might be worth a try, since when it comes to standard splitting, it does a great job, i’ve heard…
Spectralayers is one of the best to do it. What I like when you split the layers on your loop you can set the levels for each layer. Sometimes the atmosphere of the drums get categorized in the vocal or piano layer. What I like to do then is keep the layer but drop the levels. The sample will feel more natural without the metallic artifacts if you over isolate.
I tested a few options when I tried to decide which software to get and to my ears SpectraLayers had the best quality in terms of stem seperation. The additional options like adjusting volumes of layers, using it as an ARA instance within a DAW and all the other bells and whistles made it a no brainer in the end. During the usual sales you can get it close to half price
I just tried a load of these out of curiosity, with a loop from a techno/trance track by Oliver Lieb that I’ve been trying to recreate for fun.
I found that Moises Pro had the cleanest separation of the individual drums, much less bleed than others and they sounded less mushy (still kind of mushy of course).
Spectralayers sounds way more mushy, and the other ones I tried could not cleanly separate the snare and toms.
