Standalone Maschine+

A Dub Techno stab tutorial I did for the +. Just using stock plugins.

I know most of you got this device for standalone use, but before opening a new thread… does anyone use elektrons via Overbridge successfully in maschine software?
For me OB is pretty tight in ableton, but has quite a latency in maschine. Adjusting the clock offset doesn‘t really help

Picked up Maschine+ last night and so far I am very impressed even though I have much to learn. It has so far exceeded my expectations which were based on some negative comments I had read earlier. However, I was disappointed to see that the Maschine plugin hasn’t changed much since the last time I looked at it a few years ago. No zoomable UI? I can’t read the thing with my large/hi res monitor and old eyes  although I plan to mostly use the hardware standalone anyway.
Another thing I noticed is that when I shut it down and left it plugged into my iMac (via usb) that the displays came back on and did not shut off even when my Mac slept. Is there a setting for that somewhere?

Hey guys, i have to admit I’m really impressed with this Maschine + despite my hate for NI and the way they handled their ecosystem for the last 7 years.
It’s nicely built, has tons of possibilities and having my favourites custom reaktor ensembles to load, show up and work wasn’t easy in the first place but led to great satisfaction.
Having customised versions of “metaphysical function” in a standalone hardware is probably a bit overkill but so satisfactory !

One thing that is a bit more obscure is how to port kontakt ensembles for now they do not show up at all. Anyone has a usefull ressource on the subject I can check ?
Thanks a lot.

As for porting Reaktor ensembles to Maschine + this post on gearspace helped me getting most of them going.

As for porting (custom) Kontakt libraries which is still a very unstable plugin on the maschine + in my experience I had most succes to open them on desktop first and save them to a new file. Make sure to save the patch+samples and enable compress samples. Put the saved files/folder in the Kontakt user folder on SD.

Also make sure to have a Komplete/full license for Reaktor 6 and Kontakt 6 otherwise files won’t be reloaded after saving them on the Maschine +

Good luck!

Hey thanks !

It seems I was trying to port impossible libraries ( ie : kinetic metal ) Should be better with unencrypted content… :stuck_out_tongue:

Indeed… For now I gave up on using Kontakt on the Maschine + because it eventually crashes my Maschine, but being able to use custom Reaktor stuff is worth having a Maschine + alone and a lot of fun.

Having all the Boscomac stuff at your finger tips and things like Optimus Prime (16 pads with performance FX) is golden

This sounds incredible and I guess I need to start learning Reaktor. Wish there was a resource for sharing Maschine+ Reaktor ensembles.

With the post I linked to on Gearspace a couple of posts above you should be able to get most if not all user ensembles going and there are a lot of these available for free.

However I agree it would be cool if NI made another sub/sharing site with Maschine + (user) optimized Reaktor ensembles without all the unneeded stuff like graphics and parameters that make sense on the Maschine.

Thanks, I feel really stupid though because I am having a hard time following those instructions!
I can follow most of the steps but I am probably going wrong with the following:

“Make sure the right instrument is selected when doing all these actions(which is one level inside the Instrument usually)”
Can you explain what is meant by “one level inside the instrument”?

" Now click the Save to Host Icon(red) and save it somewhere in the Native Instruments/Maschine 2 folder on the SD Card"
When I click on the red “save” icon, I don’t get a dialog asking me where to save it. So I clicked “save as” after and pointed to the Realtor user location folder on my card. Is this correct?

On the M+, I go to Settings -> Library -> Rescan

Then from “plug-in instance” I click ‘browser +plugin’ -> Effects -> User
… and nothing!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

With one level inside the instrument means ‘first connection/device’ in the ensemble (mostly after the inputs) so in the below screenshot example there is panel > INITY DELAY (level one) and after double clicking the INITY DELAY block you’ll get to ‘level two’ etc.

Make sure to set the preset NI Meta info to Instrument/Effect otherwise the Maschine + won’t find the ensemble.

And ‘save as’ is fine. Put it inside the Native Instruments > User Content > Reaktor folder.

Thank you! After a lot of experimentation, I found out I needed to select the first dropdown in the preset/snapshot panel and select “Ens - Inity Delay” , create a default preset and add meta info. Working great now.

I’m amazed by how cheap these Machine+ machines are going for, I’ve seen them sell for £650 on eBay. Are they not selling too well, is there too much competition?

I have used my Mk3 almost everyday since it was released and never had any issues with encoders - and the M+ encoders are an upgrade from those.

I bought and sold mine for £650. I couldn’t resist giving it a go at that price.

If you like the workflow, the + is a great machine. Really full of options and potential. And a solid upgrade over a Mk3 (in my opinion). For what you get, £650 is pretty ridiculous.

I just realised very quickly that Maschine isn’t the answer I was looking for so out went the Mk3 and the +.

The Maschine MK3 is a solid device for composing and performing, I tried one second hand after having owned a Maschine Studio but like its forebear I just couldn’t get into Maschine 2.0. I love NI stuff, Reaktor is probably my favourite plugin due to its versatility, but I couldn’t get into basic sample manipulation with Maschine 2.0. Having standalone Reaktor ensembles sounds like a dream with Maschine +, so I’m definitely going to get one at some point.

The Maschine+ is an awesome piece of kit. Though, I’ll echo what others have said- the workflow(as far as finished pieces) isn’t for me.

I do most of my composition work in Renoise(it just makes the most sense to me). Ideally I would like a seamless way to make a Maschine project a Renoise project.

Best I can come up with is exporting the Maschine tracks as midi files and just play an empty scene with that midi data.

It’s crazy to think there’s a standalone Maschine available now. I remember a good few years ago now this was the stuff of fantasy, yet here we are. If they’d released it during the hybrid-only MPC years they’d have raked in the cash.

It is great if it doesn’t crash and reboot. I have returned my unit and got it exchanged by NI for a new one but it still crashes and reboots from time to time… I guess this is the reason for the lower prices and lots of back stock.

Of course there is a lot of competition too in the groovebox product space…

The build and sound quality of the M+ is really good, I hope the stability issues can be fixed in software…

I’m having a blast discovering ensembles in the user library and prepping them for M+. Played with the awesome Monovoks for several hours yesterday. Just having Reaktor alone in a standalone box is enough to make this a keeper for me but I’m actually really enjoying the other aspects too. I’m finding sampling, sample editing/slicing and sequencing, much more intuitive/fun to use than the MPC One.
