SSLS #4: FX track

I feel so proud.

But yes, when in doubt: FM it.

Sounds like some kind of horn, pretty neat!

There’s a lot of cool sample fodder in this thread already, and more to come I hope. To put into your, ehm… sampler of choice :upside_down_face:

One could do a pretty convincing Merzbow tribute act with the Syntakt’s FX track it seems :+1:

Something to wake you up on a Saturday morning :joy:

300bpm, max drive, p-locking FX filter type and delay time, audio rate FM to delay time as well. Lots of trigs, all with 38% probability. Two patterns, the only difference being one of the LFOs modulating pan in the first and VOL in the second.

Listener discretion advised.

LFO for Delay Feedback and HPF, lock trigs for delay time and randomised Reverb pages.

Manual tweaking of filter frequency and envelope depth.

Second one is what I captured after stopping the transport, a bit more mainstream:

I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Drive at about 70%, nice amount of resonance on the filter. LFOs modulating filter frequency and amp volume, p-locked the speeds (fm and non-fm), filter frequency and reverb size. Bunch of probability and manual tweaking of delay time and feedback. Delay through FX Track into Reverb,

Same principle but both LFOs now random with slew applied.

I think that dicking around with the FX track in this Lab is what’s convinced me most of all that the Syntakt needs a third LFO.

Remember you can plock LFO parameters, as a workaround

Also, remember we’re deliberately limiting ourselves here by using only the FX. You could potentially have 12 (or more if you sound lock) different sounds to ping the FX with a bunch of probability and just have endless variation

Oh, I know. That’s why I haven’t really missed a third LFO until now.

I know modular people who paid a lot more money for this kind of stuff than my used ST cost.

Great and funny SSL!

Watch your ears. I start from scratch. It seems indeed we don’t need a pulse: AFX track trigs + drive is sufficient to trig the delay

Yeah it has a high enough noise floor with a bit of drive to get sound going when you crank the feedback.

Waaaah there are retrigs on the AFX track too!

See, you don’t need any updates yet. You’ve not even fully explored 1.30 :stuck_out_tongue:

I love this machine.

Make the filter self oscillate, set retrig to max, bpm to max, there’s your second (third?) FX track oscillator :sunglasses:

Feels like I’ve found some Æ cheat codes.
