Speakers

I’m a guitarist who is using the Digitakt for drum beats in a studio setting. My patterns sound fabulous through my headphones and my Focal studio monitors, but are lacking through my RCF floor monitor.

Question: What self-powered speakers do you like? I need some speakers for my Digitakt that sound good at louder volumes and can pair with my 15 watt to 40 watt guitar amps. Thanks.

I use 2 x Mackie 15a thump in 20m2 square rehearsal room.

They are absolutely more then enough for electronic sets (DT, effects, other gear connected to a mixer), but when bass (I play bass through guitar Tech21 Trademark amp and 1x15 bass cab) and guitar (guitarist plays through Rivera knucklehead with 2x12 cab and Orange or50 with 4x12 cab - so he can be SUPER loud, I always wear protective earplugs on that sets) stacks are added, seems like additional subwoofer is needed.

Sub frequensies overload the Mackies at higher volumes that are necessary to cut through the mix.
I turn down 100 hz on mixer for rehearsal purpose not to damage the speakers.

Speaking on reliability of the Thump 15A, I’d say they are not so ‘built like a tank’ as advertised and have been to service a couple of times. But 2x15 seems a way to go.

I can’t find monitors that have as much bass as these KRK 10-3 G4’s (26 Hz - 40 KHz).

Thats strange.

Which model?

NX 12 SMA stage monitor. Used it when I had a fractal. Just not getting the dynamics from it that I hear through my Focals or Beyer cans.

Strange because thats a good floor monitor with a 12” woofer

Can you tell me a bit more off what differences you hear?

Muddy, lack off base
Highs to sharp?

FYI the NX 12 SMA can only go down to 50 Hz.

Focal 1

RCF 1

Focal 2

RCF 2

To my ears, the RCF bass drum sounds muffled and dull. In contrast, the Focal bass drum has dimension and is punchy. I think what I am describing can best be heard the the #2 samples.
