Just an FYI to anyone considering ordering from New Republic to the EU - I ordered about 10 days ago from New Republic, just got a notification from DHL that the package has been identified as “PACKAGE SCREENING EXCEPTION - CANNOT BE SHIPPED INETRNATIONALLY” - so doesn’t look like I’ll be receving this anyway

Can someone clarify whether it is possible to record / overdub directly from a class compliant audio interface?
I’ve been looking for a simple recording solution for sketching out song ideas (outside of the DAW) and this seems like it could be a solution for me.

I fear my purchase with suffer a similar fate. I’m now exploring if there are any alternatives or anyone kind enough to ship from the US.

StockX it is. it’s not that there are other retailers carrying the SP1, it’s basically Vaporware, which got hacked into the new things. once gone they’re gone (they sold 160 units within the last 3 months and there’ve been around 950 units in total shipped to the US in 2019) I’ve read that on the innernet ;()

it’s a thing that will get developed over time if someone does it and by now its acting like the OP-Z for instance where you need a host. works with most things plug and play (op1,xy,ios etc) via USB and the tape looper is excellent at this point, nearly daily work went into the actual release and also the other firmwares, jumping within hours to new heights, that’s crazy

you will not be able to plug in an audio interface to the SP-1 USB port. the SP-1 can only receive audio from an audio host like a phone or computer. the op-1f and op-xy can host usb audio as well.

this is correct; in other words, the sp-1 IS the audio interface…
haven’t tried the tape looper yet but the feldd firmware is really great. 8 profiles on device (with templates for the TE devices like the xy and op1), 8 layers per profile, USB-C MIDI + Midi out via TRS port, bluetooth midi just implemented, midi thru just implemented… can also act as a keyboard of sorts for your computer, buttons implementing keypresses instead of only operating as a midi device. can also be a claude code monitor and let you know when one of your claude code sessions is running / has completed / needs input (and lets you confirm/deny on-device)…

I currently only have a pocket operator tonic in terms of other te gear but I’m very intrigued by the idea of using the sp-1 as multitrack volume/gain faders / cue control / midi control of the tp-7…
if you’re in the states, shopnewrepublic is selling these for ~$60 shipped… exciting things are happening daily.

** -New: MIDI thru. Flip it on and the SP-1 forwards MIDI coming in over USB straight out the 3.5mm TRS jack, so it doubles as a USB-to-TRS interface while your faders and buttons keep working. Sequence from a computer, phone, or iPad and drive a TRS-only synth (an NTS-1, a Volca, an OP-1 field) through the SP-1, with no separate interface box. It is a device toggle in the configurator, off by default.*
** -It passes notes, CC, pitch-bend, program change, and aftertouch, but not clock (turn on MIDI clock, per profile, for that). Default off is deliberate: a DAW echoing MIDI back to the SP-1 could otherwise double your own notes on the TRS synth.*

It says Teenage Engineering on the device and they’ve posted SP-1 on their IG story before

When using it as a wav/mp3 player can it shuffle/randomize playback?
One of my favorite tricks when I had a minidisc player was to load a bunch of short percussive type sounds and glitches, then random/shuffle their playback
not quiet but almost, me personally being a big fan of the sp1 tape looper, managed to take care of communicating the right things which i stumbled over in practice and by know its a really stable, non overwhelmingly piece of aesthetics, the last change has been the led brightness taken down to being briefly visible, making it a material fusion out of the aluminum and the lil leds, ambient lighting.
performance has been raised several times, free running loops (part of me) is also really unique.
to come back to wav/mp3 you able to use the provided web tool to organize the slots from your computer, you can load things in until the space is gone. 16 slots to mess with, no length limitation + varispeed and varispeed recording, automatically perfectly looping 🫰🏼
the tape looper is more bare bones but highly musical the OG stem loader can be used aswell. You should read into the links above

the physical realm of this lil thing is something that’s changing the way you treat the music, it’s not integrated anyhow, just its own vibe machine, even as a midi controller with TE templates integrated it’s nothing you’ll find in a thing the size of a credit card in half
-with the Feldd firmware you’ll also have a new oplab for the op1f (usbc to trs midi) or another use for the multi out port on the xy, by now it’s to good as a companion for both. real tape for the XY, real midi out and faders, chords, Arps for the op1f driving a modular

Not international, I saw a few users having issues with international orders from New Republic, but when I noticed they were in California I decided to go for it since I’m also in the US
I’m gonna give it a nice, full first charge since it’s likely been just sitting around for who knows how long, but wow, this thing looks and feels great. Tiny, but with that TE build quality you’d expect.
Soooo glad I found this post and decided to take the plunge and grab one while I could!!

same when I stumbled over the discord and saw the potential, obviously SP1 tape looper has been my favorite because a lot of the quirks and QOL things are based on my suggestions with TE gear and workflow, things like latched recording, individual track length, low led settings and some unreported things where the dev stumbled over after reporting basically other things.
we’re talking about updates within minutes under certain circumstances, people are awesome and especially music equipment would ever benefit from open sourced code and things because the company’s building music machines won’t, they do profit over a long ass period instead of building the real thing where people wouldn’t send in tons of requests over years because it would be sorted in the first place, imagine some Elektron in peoples hands
