Songs which melt away your snobbery (with only pleasure and no guilt)

One of my favorite basslines ever, hidden in the last third, directly pointing to Joy Division, Sisters, etc:

I see it as challenging this idea entirely.

So as in taking what is generally regarded as popular and accessible of which could be deemed cheesy or throwaway (like a Take That song) and dismissing those notions to truly embrace those qualities that give these songs the merit they deserve outside of those labels?

I’m having a serious early 80s flashback at the moment. Not just the music. The whole vibe, colours, cities felt so different from today. But well, I was an adolescent kid back then, which might explain at least something.

same here … the 80s and especially 90s have been in my mind a lot more…I was in my late teens to late 20s I consumed a lot of the outputs of the times.

Been playing this a lot lately.

Damn, there sure are a lot of tracks in this thread that I hate with a passion, but we all have our soft spots. The Sundays are one of mine

I went through an anti classic rock snobbery phase. Getting into the Doobie Brothers in 2024 melted away my snobbery, though it was the deep cuts that did it, not the big hits I already heard so many times
