Songs for Sunsets: album release, Bandcamp codes

I just released this album, which was written entirely in Drambo. I came to Drambo after using Elektron hardware for years – hence the post here. It lets me access iOS and macOS libraries, while staying within the Elektron sequencing mode – which seems to be the only way for me to make music.

For this album, I used the iConnectivity AUDIO4c interface, which let me use Stratos, Repro-5, Olafur Arnalds libraries, Tympo, Spitfire’s Abbey Road Two, and more. What a dream.

I wanted to write down these technicalities first, but actually this music is about emotions :slight_smile: Here’s my text for this music:

Listen to this as the sun lowers – whether the sundowning happens geographically, mentally or emotionally. This music carries you into (and beyond) the in-between spaces, and lets you feel this day, this experience turn into memory.

This is about standing in front of water and waves, watching another sunset. And then another the next day. And another. Shades and colors without end. The slow drift of clouds.

This is about standing in front of your own life, living another moment.

This is about the feelings a day stirs in you. About the appreciation, sometimes hard won, for whatever you managed to survive today. About knowing that whatever happened is already leaving – and forever more is yet to come.

Light, darkness, and the spaces between them: you.
These are songs for your sunsets.

oh wow – a lot happened since Cradle. That was done with two A4s, and soo much sine wave intimacy. I think the intimacy is still here, but in an entirely different sonic universe.
Come to think, I do use the “Broken EP” sound from the OB-6, recreated within Repro-5. But where Cradle was so melodically dense, this here leaves a lot more open-ended.

Interesting you find drambo a better fit than a more conventional desktop DAW, which would seem the normal path, considering all the virtual synths and sample libraries you used. Something about the power of limitations perhaps?

The music needs a proper listen later, but a quick check tells me to be pretty much my kind of thing. On the neoclassical side, with a slight seasoning of beats.

There’s a very specific reason that I finally understood: as a step sequencer, Drambo writes all incoming notes into its step grid structure. So whenever I record my playing, it’s close to 100% what I meant the melody to be.

Non-step based DAWs record my music continuously, which probably is awesome to most everyone – but leaves me frustrated all the time, because the post-quantization changes my melodic structure.

I can’t explain it better – and maybe I misunderstood how quantization in non-step based DAWs work. But whatever happens technically, recording melodies on Elektron sequencers (or in Drambo) always results in my playing being recorded correctly.

So any other limitation that comes from using Drambo is sad, but way less important than this :slight_smile:

And now that I could access VSTs and Kontakt libraries, the sky seems the limit.
