Song position pointer data triggers note on Hydrasynth?

Hey all! Although lurking in the forums for many years this is the first time I can’t find an answer (I think?) so here is my first post.

I have a MIDI track on the OT that’s dedicated to the Hydrasynth explorer. All good and swell except when I press stop on the OT it seems to trigger a note on the Hydra. Analysing the MIDI OUT messages on that track reveals that it’s song position pointer data as I have the arranger running on the OT.

First q: is this what’s causing the triggering of the note?
Second q: How can I remedy this issue?

Thanks

That would be surprising. Does it happen with Arranger off ? (same pattern)

I press stop on the OT it seems to trigger a note on the Hydra

A note you didn’t program of a stuck note ? (no note off send).
I’d check with arranger on, Midi trracks muted.

Check with midi monitor.

Find the culprit first !

Is HS arp on ?

I would be able to check later (I have OT MKII and HS Explorer)

Hi sezare, thanks for the reply.
It doesn’t seem to happen when the arranger is off and it happens randomly when the arranger is on.
Sometimes it will sustain a note from the sequencer and other times it will just play a very low-octave E or recently a high-octave note.

I already checked with a midi monitor and the data that is transmitted when I press stop is the song position pointer, I will post a screenshot in case you can decipher more.

I have yet to check with arranger on and all MIDI channels off, I will write back when I check.

HS arp is off.

Ok @Thaddeus do you see the notes off ? (Corresponding to notes on). OT send Notes On Velocity 0 instead of Notes Off messages.

It would be also interesting to filter the Song Pointer Possition message and check if it persists.

(Don’t hesitate to ping me in a week in order to try it, holydays with travel setup for now !)

Hi @sezare56 sorry for the late response, had to take a break

So I ran a copy of OT midi out to MIDI monitor and this is what happens just after I hit stop

Note Off is triggered correctly (and before I press stop). In this very example the Hydra had a hanging note. I think I also noticed that the hanging note will be different depending on which row of the arranger I am in…

Finally, none of this happens if the OT MIDI track is muted.

Thanks for taking a look!

Ok thanks for that test @Thaddeus.

I’d filter the SPP with midi processor to check if it is the culprit.

Yes, I tried it with midipipe and it solves the problem.
However, I read that OT sends SPP when transport send is activated and I need it on for my drum machine. I tried to see if I can filter the input on the Hydra but no luck there either… To make things even better I also don’t use a laptop for my live set.

Would you have any recommendations? Is a hardware midi processor my only solution?

What is your drum machine ?
What is you other gear ?
Any Elektron Digi ?
I think it is possible to filter SPP via a Digi. (via a midi track and midi out instead of midi thru)

The set up is the OT, Analog Rytm mk1, Hydra and modular. Unfortunately no digis…

I don’t have it anymore, can’t try but it may be possible to use one of his tracks to receive midi notes from OT and send them back via midi out (SEND MIDI checked), without SPP.
Unless AR also send it !
(Midi monitor).

It is be possible to send back clock via midi out if necessary.
