Alright, I end up with a banging pattern or two that I want to make into a song. I find myself stuck trying to organize the track. In a DAW it is relatively simple: make a 16 bar loop, remove the elements to start a build up, drop, main, climax, main, then fade.
The above is a REAL simple example. Essentially I do not want the same DAW workflow using the OT. Besides, that would involve creating a ridiculous amount of patterns to chain together and remove the performance out of it. I have seen videos with someone making an entire house track out of one pattern by using mutes, and scenes. Excellent stuff…of course a step by step wasn’t provided for.
Do you write tech-house, deep house, or techo etc? If so how do you go from the kick ass loop you just made to a completed track? Do you use a template? Do you ensure that specific MIDI and Audio tracks are only used for certain elements (Ex: Midi 1=Bass, Track 1=Bass Drum…). Do you separate your synth’s outputs to utilize and resample audio on multiple audio track channels using a flex machine? Do you setup your scenes in a logical order from start to finish? Do you use one shots more than loops or vice versa? Do you stay away from MIDI or only use it to then resample?
I am sure the options are almost limitless:)
Right now I have zero style and found myself needing a logical arrangement for banks, parts, scenes, patterns. I hope to develop a system where only a 16 step pattern length is use along with extended one shots…but this is all theory…I am not novice to the music…just trying to wrap my head around the OT workflow that would best suit my needs.
Essentially, my setup is the OT and Virus Ti2. Along with my friend’s AR and A4. Routing will be interesting. Probably won’t get a chance to put the 4 together for a month. I will be thinking hardcore on how the two of us can work independently but this will be another thread on collaboration.
I am looking forward to hearing from experienced users on this. If you are in Toronto Canada…give me a shout out if you are doing live PA’s and want some support!!
Cheers,
