Right, well they seem to have succeeded then. I’m kind of on the fence, on the other hand it looks like a well made product and based on the promos it sounds good, if a bit generic. On the other hand I kind of dislike all these easy to use noise apparatuses since it really takes all of the experimentation with gear out of the equation. You have your set controls and features and a sonic palette defined by those controls and features, which to me is kind of lame.

I’m kinda with you on the annoyance with “noise” instruments, but Soma always tend to create instruments that go beyond such narrow definitions.
I’ve not seen enough of this to know exactly what it can do, I’ve only seen what a pretty small handful of people can do with it, so I guess time will tell if it can transcend the “random noise box” that a lot of people (me included) first thought that the Lyra was and were so beautifully proved wrong.

Either way, the fact that this is something they’re only producing in Russia suggests that, like the Dvina, they’re not expecting it to shift a shit ton of units and are happy for it to be one of their more “niche” products.

Like in a live setting personally I’d much rather watch Linekraft rubbing some contact mic’d metal barrels with steel wool while a synth is droning in the backround than some dude hunched over an Enner, no matter how intuitive and fun to the user it is.

I dunno, I’m a bit bored of all the angry young men and their contact mics, it’s all a bit played out.

Each to their own though.

Yeah, perhaps so. Depends on the artist I guess. As far as Enner goes, it doesn’t seem to offer anything new either. The sounds in the previews are very familiar to me. Not like the Lyra, for example, which still excites me.

The Lyra seems to be a perfect combination of eccentric design and analog synthesis. Enner seems to be a bit too eccentric in it’s design while the actual sounds that come out of it are quite generic.

Anyway, I think I’d like to see some demos of this through some FX. I reckon it’d sound ace burning a hole in my Quadraverb’s converters.

…hey, it’s the perfect product from russia with love soma perspective…

all the know how, how to and bullet proofed experience, mingled up to squeezed finally in one uberexpressive “instrument” that ends up affordable for the average market selling points…

now, i don’t need to scratch my pennies in years to come to finally afford a pulsar…
not the same…i know i know…but all that basic raw circuit sonic charme from russia is IN there…

so for me…THIS is the perfect sample source i’m begging for since first moment i heard the pulsar…

Thought occurred to me as well.

I guess it’s been spared the same type of criticisms (no MIDI) because Landscape keeps a lower profile

I don’t think so, but there’s a lot of angry young men making essentially the same racket with contact mics (and sometimes oil drums, for sure) that Einsurstende Neubaten and Hanatarash were making (much better) over 30 years ago.

I feel like a similar thing has happened in a lot of noise music that happened in metal at the end of the 90’s. It’s stopped being about “listen to this” and it’s turned into “listen to me”.

I’m hopeful about instruments like the Enner, as they might refocus a few people’s minds on the actual sounds they’re making rather than the self indulgent and completely played out “performances” we’ve had to sit through for the last 30 years or so.

I don’t really like terms like noise bro, it’s patronising and probably a bit sexist, but I do see a real problem in the noise “scene” with boring, identikit angerporn filling in for a lack of new ideas and innovations and an increasingly dogmatic and restrictive mindset beginning to creep in.

Obviously the Enner isn’t going to solve this problem, but it might make a few people try something a little different for a change, or maybe not, who gives a shit.
