Hey everyone, I’m having a problem with the new OS 1.4 update, and playing slices and slots via external MIDI. I’ve followed several tutorials and seem to have done everything right, but with no luck getting it to work so far.
“Follow TM” is active in the MIDI Control menu, and my keyboard is sending MIDI on Channel 1, which corresponds to the track I’m controlling.
When in Slice mode, with a sample sliced into 16 slices:
Trig buttons play back slices as expected, but when I play my MIDI keyboard, only Slice 16 plays. The OT plays Slice 16 when any of the lowest 47 MIDI notes are sent to it.
In Slots mode, nothing happens when I play any note on my MIDI keyboard. Again, trig keys play slots as expected.
Strangely, in Tracks mode, notes from my midi controller play the entire sample in each slot, behaving more as I would expect from Slots mode.
I’ve checked everything I can think of - I’ve sent the keyboard into a MIDI monitor app to make sure it’s behaving correctly, and it is.
Can you think of something I’ve missed? Or does anything I’ve said indicate what could be causing the problem? Thanks so much.
Same here, Slots and chromatic are working but in Slice Mode only one slice is played. Tried every octave.
which midi note triggers the first slot for you, out of curiosity? really wish there was a bit more documentation about this feature, it’s a big one.
I don’t remember and am not in front of the gear atm.
Anyway i use a shitty Midi keyboard, not sure i could tell the note, it is just Transpose + or - …
Are the lowest keys of your controller definitely sending out Notes 1-48?
The whole “47 notes all play the highest vslue slice” smells like it’s not sending Notes below 48
That’s the problem, it doesn’t behave as described in the manual.
Hence the OP.
I have had it working, so have others, check your settings.

Thanks @darenager! At least I know what key should do it now, even though it does not.
Ok if we don’t need anything we’ll call you.
I provided the info about what notes you need, the info is in the manual, I am not in front of my OT so can’t do a walkthrough, but it does work.

He’s not saying it’s not working for others, he’s wondering why it’s not working for himself and so do I.
We manifestly read the manual and « check your settings » won’t help further on that one.
Thing is in my case it’s working for Slots mode even and the notes sent start below 48.
It does though, which is why I said check your settings.
Set trig mode for the track you want slots/slices, set to follow TM on, ensure audio note is is on, set keyboard to transmit on correct channel and correct note range.

All that is checked on my side.
Still doesn’t work.
@Cactusvision what?s the model of your keyboard? Mine is a Launchkey Mini.
Make sure you are sending C-1 NOT C1.
Try turning off individual track midi channels and just set auto channel on OT same as your midi keyboard.
Some midi keyboards do not cover the full range.
Hey! You all solved slice mode for me.
@CrepePants, thanks for getting me to re-check the MIDI monitor - it made me realize that my keyboard’s lowest note is F0, so it only starts at Slice 18.
@darenager, my bad, I didn’t know that a new manual was posted that includes the new OS features - I only saw the one-sheet one the download page. Thanks though, seeing the range from the manual solved it.
Blasted_pingin, try using a MIDI monitor and check to see the lowest note your keyboard is sending out?
I still can’t get slots mode to work, strangely… using the higher slots and hitting every key on my keyboard, but nothing so far. Still, progress!

Slots mode is working. That means it is sending from C-1, no?
Slices are supposed to start higher, at C0. So i guess it is not a problem of range either.
Personnaly i only use auto channel and TM Map.
No worries.
I only use Slots mode and I kept screwing that bit up.
Glad you got it going!
Enjoy!

Try to load samples on the higher number slots, say from 48 and over. If that works it’s coming from a range issue.
