Solutions for boosting to Eurorack levels?

Does anyone know of cheap way to boost signals to Eurorack levels? I’m sure there are more than a few modules for this purpose but are there any other methods? What I want to do is use my Soma Ether as a weird, noise source for modulation on a 0-Coast. Perhaps it is even possible within 0-Coast itself through patching this to that?

Run it thru a mixer?

Any old mixer or something specific with a lot of gain on tap? I’m not really sure how much gain would be required from line level to Eurorack level.

you are going to need a big euro monster case @craig

Nice one. I’ll give it a read

I once had a look through some rack mic-/line-preamps for that purpose, but haven‘t really found anything. At least according to specs from manuals they all go to that same standard line level 20 dBu – or was it 21? Don‘t remember.
Eurorack is operating in a much higher dBu range, but I forgot the maths behind that.

Gave up on preamps gas surfing and got a small booster module instead.

I’d recommend going with your audio straight into the modular. You will encounter some gainstaging mismatch here and there, but it‘s mostly fine. See if you like the workflow at all, befor getting a booster module.

You do realize that the only purpose of the 0-coast is as a gateway drug?

I’m giving up on the idea but in case anyone else looks this up in the future, I found this device by Boredbrain Music for a non-modular solution to getting signals into and out of Eurorack:

It’s too much moolah for me. I thought there would be something simple along the lines of a DI box (with a price to match) but it seems not.

Michigan Synth Works BLN.

Edit: oops, I reread the original post. I retract my offering… this isn’t what you asked for.

I researched the INTRFX when it showed up used but I was going to use it with actual pedals and people complained about the geometry and someone bought the unit while I was dithering. Probably just as well. Someone into DIY could probably make you a small amplifier for not much $ but I guess it’s too much of a niche (boosting to a semi-modular without having a modular rack) for there to be a commercial product.

I use a Bogner Wessex pedal (+ Mercry7 Reverb) to drive my Azzam Bells Crown into the Bastl Buddy line input (10*gain). I like the pedal solution because it’s near the instrument while the euro skiff is a bit further away on the desk. The moving around makes it also performative,… I want to expand on that for live playing. People need a (even slight but true) connection between what I do and the evolving sound changes.

Some solutions here:

Booster pedal
LIL mixer with gain
ART tube preamp
EHX LPB (cheapest :white_check_mark:)

It’s been a while since I had the 0-coast, but I believe you could just use the summing mixer. One of the inputs has a gain knob below that adds to the signal, then you can patch it to whatever.

Yes, but it’s an attenuverter, so (if I understand it correctly), it will be at unity fully CW, gradually attenuate the signal as it’s moved CCW until it hits noon, then inverts the signal from noon to fully CCW. I’ll give it a try tho. Thanks!

Ah yes, I just looked at the panel. Plug it into the left input, leave the right one empty, so the knob is an offset dial. Fully CW then gives you a +5v signal, which is summed with the left input. Adjust to taste.

Ah nice! I will give that a go. Thanks again!
