I run a buffer of 64 samples mostly when there’s any external hardware involved. I’ve been more caught up in trying to figure out sync recently when monitoring through the mixer. In general, latency isn’t a huge deal for me when running either 100% ITB sources or 100% hardware, but gets a bit tricky with a mix of both.

After I find a landing spot with that - currently, just use track delays and what feels right, probably all that’s needed - I want to figure out setting up feedback loops from FX in the box. I did give this a try briefly but was finding bit of resonance buildup with the first couple of experiments, not sure is this down to latency or taking the time to figure out gain structure, but will need a bit of work either way.

I have not experimented with this myself at all, but nice to know that track delays can help here. I have been thinking about the Nome II and that it should be able to fix these kinds of problems. I have an MRCC and am thinking about adding the Nome II and sending clock to the MRCC and DAW, so it should fix these syncing issues if I ever try it

Some of it comes down to preference. I’m never going to be going nuts trying to get everything sample accurate, if it feels right then that’s good enough.

I’m not sure that a sync box like that is necessarily the solution here though, there’s an additional issue if you’re going to monitor through the mixer, i.e. before the audio gets back to the computer, but also try to sync that with signals coming from the computer to the mixer. Not the same problem as syncing where it’s just about reconciling clock / midi notes with how long it takes to hit the computer, or at least to me it’s seemed different. So possibly it will come down to a similar thing of setting track delays by ear either way.

Anyway, it doesn’t bother me too much, so long as the feel is good for jamming I’m happy enough to record and then look at fine-tuning in the edit. Or at least that’s where I am with it right now.
