A new model ?
I was doubting to buy but thought maybe soon new model/upgrade… and I was right. Will wait till this one drops.

Cool. More controls over the LFO(s) would be very nice. Curious how the cartridge system will be improved… the current implementation took me a while to wrap my brain around. It does seem like something that should be easier.
im guessing they added a way to load to both efx slots as once. i bet their number one support issue is people not understanding why its only on 1 channel.
lfo speed switch would be nice but im happy with the 42f.
curious to see the new color, it says blue but the dot looks kinda purple. i do love purple but also happy with my puke color.
I’ve been interested in the Solar 42, but rapid iterations like this tend to dissuade me from buying gear from companies that do it. It suggests (perhaps unfairly) that they haven’t thoroughly worked through their designs before releasing to the public. Sort of like the beta testing OS’s, but in hardware, making it even worse for early adopters.
I have the 42f, and def feel a bit burned by this announcement.
Seriously… these cost too much money for this foolishness… just make new instruments.
I’m glad I held off, even if I think it is amazing! This is a sad way to sell synth’s. I will never buy one now.
yeah a lot of people think they need the latest iphone too but this is a terrible mindset
this shit is good. i was glad to have the distortion on the 42f but an lfo switch i can live without
make music, people
I don’t have the latest iPhone… my phone is three years old. The difference is with instruments I get to choose… so I support businesses that don’t have the newest iPhone mentality.
None of my instruments have a mk2 and I prefer that. They stand on their own and the company moves on.
This is actually much more common now and was rare back in the day… a sign of consumerism I guess.
yea I don’t feel bad at all with my 42f, even tho I bought it just a few months ago. it’s still the sound I wanted 3 months ago, it doesn’t matter what happens in 3 months from now. of course newer and better things will come out… this is how things work and stuff improves. it’s not like they’re warping spacetime to secretly place bugs in your synth to make you want the new one. that’s on you.
progress is iterative.
THAT BEING SAID, I was kinda sad I missed out on the limited white with red keys model! still, me missing out just that means 1 more person out there got to buy their dream synth! I’d honestly rather spread that joy.
It’s not about whether you feel bad… you just spent two grand! You shouldn’t have to feel anything but that you bought a timeless instrument to keep… not that shoot, I guess I don’t have newest one anymore… but if you are ok with it who am I to say… I don’t think I’m alone though.
I do think mine is timeless, though. The time I’ve had with it cannot be replaced, it is invaluable. I would not trade that.
Granted, yes, we are two separate people who might have different feelings about things. I don’t think you are wrong. I just think it is a matter of perspective.
I would like to say, I do not think Elta music is exploiting consumerist urges, nor are they using planned obsolescence. I’m glad they can improve upon things, it will mean their next project will have so much more knowledge and skill behind it.
Yes I mean I do think your synth is timeless… I just don’t like the way they are going about it… that is all…
It just feels very avoidable… I mean I don’t think many care about a improved filter and distortion that much… and don’t care that much about a extra lfo switch… but now if someone wants one they will want the new version and it is completely pointless…
They could have easily just did a wavetable version, or maybe a ten oscillator version with parameter locking and more steps… anything… you get my point… why not just make something new and sell them both… then both products will become more popular… now they have many customers scared to purchase any of them…
I think I have put too much thought into it though and I will let it go… we all see things different like you said and I hope they do well… I will skip it though.
Many, many, instances in synth history where an earlier revision is considered superior. Besides, if they don’t make the green/brown/puke colored one again it’s automatically the best of all time anyway (recentish owner myself).
Don’t have problems with revisions like this btw.
Oh no they are going back to the original non-alien design? shame the design was pretty sick IMO
What are the difference between 42F and 42N exactly? Or with the original version? (asking for a friend)
I just can’t seem to find pictures of the legacy Solar 42 on Elta website…
My pal gave me a loan of his Solar 42F. I’ve been playing about with it for the last month or so, and it’s beautiful.
Here are some thoughts/sounds
can’t wait to see this clip, thanks for posting
I want one of these in the worst way. But first, Norway, then Japan, then Europe…stupid travelling!
