I finished 12 grades, never studied anything, just read and learned from, books, podcasts, youtube…
I had so many jobs which I hated amazon h hmm… , dominos h hmm. I really liked long boarding (long and fast skateboards) but so many interests made choice less to get more (music production).

I’m a dropout who lives in a small town in the mountains and does odd jobs: landscaping, restaurants, farm jobs etc. Oh and I have a couple young kids I’m home with a lot.
We live really cheap and don’t make much money but it’s pretty nice.

I think the appeal is to be together away from home. Together in a classroom perhaps not so much. The instant a virtual option is available attendance plummets.
Particularly in the “less fun” sorts of classes. In fact, most every semester since 2022 has begun with a flood of requests for hybrid/virtual options, and this is before they’ve even been to that particular class. Grad students, too.
It doesn’t really bother me, though, and the option to just go virtual if I’m sick is pretty nice.

Did a quick search and didn’t see a thread like this - so here we go.
Who are you? What is your life like? I’m always curious to see what the lives of other musicians and electronic music lovers are like. We talk all day about gear, production techniques, memes etc - but we only get small glimpses into eachothers’ lives via the “show us the view from your window” thread.
I’ll go first:
- I’m Phil. I’m an architect.
- I live in the pacific northwest in the USA. We have moss.
- I love motorcycles. I’m doing a trip through twisty roads in California soon. I used to commute by motorcycle when I lived there, splitting lanes. My commute was an hour by car or bus, or 20 minutes splitting lanes on my bike. I miss that. It’s something special that more people should experience.
- I love pads. Give me your lushest pads. I am happy to hold down chord for ten minutes.
- I struggle to find the right balance of alone time (to read, make music, and recharge) and social time. If I have plans, I love to cancel them at the last minute and stay in. If my weekend is open, I sometimes pine to be with people even though I could enjoy my alone time.

I like to play techno in my spare time and am working on an improv live setup but find myself getting distracted by books and video games lately.
Also into motorcycles but haven’t owned one in a while. Can’t top the two wheel ride.

I’m James. I am many things, mostly diabetic and an accountant.
I’ve had type 1 diabetes for 27 years, diagnosed at age 3 in what I will only describe as dramatic fashion. So I grew up like that, don’t know life any other way. That has kept me disciplined when it comes to diet and fitness, not that I ever did well in sports. I just turned 30 a few months ago and I can comfortably say I’m in the best shape of my life (and my diabetes agrees). So I’m happy there.
I live in SoCal (near LA), still with my parents. Sometimes I’m disappointed that I can’t swing things on my own yet, but then most of the time I’m glad I have a backyard to go and stretch out in and I can afford a synth every now and then. Wouldn’t be doing that on LA rent. Plus, I can see the (well below market rate) rent that I pay to my parents helping them out as they transition out of work and into retirement. My dad is going through that right now, been out about 6 months and it’s really interesting to see him changing (mostly for the better!).
I’ve worked from home doing accounting for the last 4 years now and enjoyed it (And did about 4 years in various offices before then). Started a new job about 6 months ago and unfortunately that hasn’t panned out, so I’m going to be back on the market. Oh and still working part time a few hours a week keeping the books tidy for the old company. Also in school part time right now working on my Master’s in Accounting so I can at least be eligible to sit for the CPA exam, which is a big deal in my profession. Though tbh my experience these past 6 months at my current job has me questioning if that’s really what I want. I had something really close to my dream job before, but I wanted a bit more challenge and responsibility and I got WAY TOO MUCH all at once with the new role. So we’ll see what I do, I have a few ideas. I still have some things to wrap up where I am now and then I’m going to take it easy - catch up with some friends, go to the zoo, spend some time with my dad, and just be picky with job applications for a few weeks while I decompress from this whole experience.
When I’m having fun I work on my music, master other people’s music, or try to play videogames (which are actually the thing that got me into electronic music). I probably don’t get out enough.

I’m Devon.
Male. 42 years old, living on the east side of Hollywood, CA, aka crazy town.
I get really passionate about things, then really depressed and disinterested in everything. Its made for a crazy life which might be tough sometimes, but never dull. Had a wild array of jobs including teaching English through drama to kids in Japan, working for Elektron and Pioneer DJ, and managing a home construction.
I’m single, but very traditional and wanna get married. I like dudes and chicks…very confident with the dudes, terrified of the chicks and insecure around them. I have ADHD and probably bipolar disorder, and its hard to reach out to people–but then when I do I have intense and fulfilling connections, then I go back into my shell. I try to meditate at least an hour 4-5x a week which is saving me. I refuse drugs of any kind.
Weekdays:
I eat 1 of 2 types of breakfast, always. I love routine.
Work from 8a-2p at a nonprofit doing general telecom tech stuff - troubleshooting and installing analog and digital cabling and infrastructure, access control systems, alarm systems, etc.
When I get off work I generally go to the local grimy skatepark and rollerblade. Currently working on grinding the coping in the empty pool, but it’s terrifying cause I don’t want to wipe out and break bones.
Then I go to the garage at my nearby mother’s hosue and try to work on hardware techno/tech-funk/2-step/garage/experimental industrial stuff, hanging onto the 25-year dream of being a “live techno star” whatever that means 
Dinner is either a turkey sandwich at Subway or I go back at my little apartment off Sunset Blvd aka and have warm bread with some hummus and other mediterranean dips while watching a documentary, usually about religion or the middle east or engineering.
On the weekends I try and get some watercoloring or iPad art in and am currently working on a large mural in Little Tokyo.
I also manage a rental property with my old mother and am constantly pulled away to work on it and address things and having ADHD makes it almost painful to have such a diverse range of responsibilities, but that’s where I’m at.

I hate to write code, but apparently I’m good at it, so I do it for money. Then I take that money and buy music gear, which I barely have time to use, because I’m so busy writing all this fucking code.

I wish the Internet wasn’t such a hostile place, and I wasn’t so concerned with privacy and information security, because it would be fun to participate in a thread like this for real, but the reality is I’m too paranoid to share personal info on the web. The problem isn’t the forum members — I’m pretty sure none of you would do anything nefarious with people’s information, but this is still visible everywhere.

I’m a Porsche addict. Have had 8 of them, only one at a time (over the last 30 years). I get whatever the “uncool” model is at the time (so I can afford it) and enjoy it.
I like to climb on things that people tell me not to climb on. Roll down hills that people tell me not to roll down, etc.
I’m a network/systems engineer by day, and synth designer by night.
I play keys, but wish I played them differently. (Classical background, but funk ambitions)
Love Acid, Techno, break beats, house, (was a rave kid in the 90s.
I love video games, have just about every game ever made in my archives.
The C64 was my third parent growing up. Love the demo scene from 1986 to today.
My wife and I also love to travel.
That is the extent to which I’m willing to divulge.

Is it illegal to ‘split lanes’ in your part of the of the us? In the uk we call it filtering and is completely legal. Can’t imagine riding in lane like a car.

My life‘s hm, i‘m blocking myself way too much, insecure what to do and stuff, but today was quite interesting. In the morning watching monkeys jumping over my head on a stairway to a river in moyobamba, peru. Yesterday visiting a sulfurous thermal bath. Now i just came from anaconda disco tarapoto with a motortaxi, ears hurting from the blasting reggaeton. Good food, lots of chili, potatoes and coffee, traveling with a peruvian coffee specialist friend.

NW is great for a lot of reasons. Need to escape the weather sometimes, but it’s got a bit of everything, and though I’ve only ridden dirt bikes (grew up in the proper woods) the roads (when you can get on them at an empty time of day,) are chef’s kiss
