Sliced loop; avoiding pops?

Is there a way to automatically add a short fade-in and fade-out to slices to help avoid pops n crackles when trigging loop slices either played rate fwd or reverse?

For example I have a simple rhodes piano loop that has no silence in it; it is just a sequence of slow sustained chords. When I grid slice, and regardless of agreeing to zero crossings or not, when trigging the slices in any order or linearly, I get pops n crackles that I’d prefer were not there.

Tried messing with the atk etc, but it makes little/no difference.

Unfortunately, no. I really hope attention turns to this on a future update. The recent smooth Ping Pong loop is a step in the right direction.

Try to adjust the slice start and end points manually after you have created them. Press function while asjusting to snap to zero crossings. If you have a stereo sample it might be tricky because the crossings will often not be at the same point across l+r channels.

Bit of a revelation moment here - never even occurred to me that (of course) stereo files have differing waves and therefore different zero crossings.

…mono rules, anyway…

thanks - good tip. I reduced the db, summed the channels and hit the zero crosses. sounds much better.

In case you wanted to look at this any more - using a FLEX machine might yield better results if you’re cycling through many slices on a STATIC machine.
